The Royal Malaysian Customs Department of Perak is generally responsible in collecting indirect taxes as follows:-

  • Import Duty
  • Export Duty
  • Excise Duty
  • Sales Tax
  • Service Tax
  • Windfall Profit Levy
 The Customs Department also provides facilities to support the industrial and tourism sectors which are growing rapidly in Perak. The Department is also responsible in controlling any attempt to cause losses in the country's revenue. .

OBJECTIVE


TO IDENTIFY AND INVESTIGATE PARTIES INVOLVED IN SMUGGLING AND FRAUDULENT ACTIVITIES IN ORDER TO TAKE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST THE PARTIES.

 

FUNCTION


The Preventive Branch, the department's pulse of enforcement agency is the investigation body of the Malaysian Royal Customs and Excise Department. Its function is to prevent and detect any contravention of the laws administered by the department, especially the following pieces of legislation :-

  • Customs Act 1967
  • Dangerous Drugs Act 1952
  • Excise Act 1976
  • Sales Tax Act 1972
  • Service Tax Act 1975
  • Law Reform ( Eradication of Illicit Samsu ) Act 1976


ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

 

CLIENT'S CHARTER

The Preventive Officers are committed to carry out preventive tasks, eradicate smuggling and fraud activities honestly, sincerely, fairly and with responsibility following the qualities stated below :-

  • To develop and collect information through intelligence and public co-operation and to take fast and effective action
  • To complete investigation within 3 months provided all necessary information is obtained.
  • To respond to any appeals, questions and queries within 2 weeks.
  • To create awareness among the public by organising campaigns, talks and dialogues twice yearly.
  • To dispose exhibits as soon as possible and as frequent of at least 3 times yearly.
  • To process rewards as soon as a case is solved and completed.
