The Royal Malaysian Customs Department of Perak is generally responsible in collecting indirect taxes as follows:-

  • Import Duty
  • Export Duty
  • Excise Duty
  • Sales Tax
  • Service Tax
  • Windfall Profit Levy
The Customs Department also provides facilities to support the industrial and tourism sectors which are growing rapidly in Perak. The Department is also responsible in controlling any attempt to cause losses in the country's revenue.

CLASSIFICATION AND VALUATION DIVISION

This division is headed by a Senior Assistant Customs Superintendent.

The unit's main activities are :

  • To study and make decisions on open, verbal and by telephone applications for classifications of goods.
  • To process classification reports and to forward it to Headquarters for preventive cases, payment of duty under protest and goods which are difficult to be classified
  • To study and endorse value on sale of goods to Headquarters for valuation under section 7(1) (b) Sales Tax Act 1972 and Section 2(1) Excise Act 1976.

    POST IMPORTATION DIVISION

    This division is headed by a Senior Assistant Customs Superintendent.

    The unit's main activities are :

    • To carry out post importation auditing to ensure that the value declared during importation are reasonable, and
    • To carry out auditing on value declared and Sales Tax, Service Tax and other taxes and duties collected by the Internal Tax Division are correct.
