| The eve of Syd's amputation surgery was spent with Syd and all my rotties out laying in the sand pile. It was a beautiful summer night. I got out my digital camera to capture Syd one last time as a happy-go-lucky 4 legged dog. He perked up when I said "Wanna go for a walk?" and that just broke my heart, not knowing how well he'd do as a 3 legged large breed dog. As dusk came, we all went inside to snuggle and rest. I spent most of the night second guessing myself. As I cried and cried, Sydney laid on the floor, sleeping peacefully. I went over and laid down beside him and gave him a big old hug. As I normally do, I took his face in my hands and told him how much he meant to me. That's when I felt something. Another lump! This time in his jaw. My heart sank. I immediately began to sob and just knew that the disease had already taken over beyond my control. He had a lump just under his jaw (not in the jaw, but you could feel it from the inside of his mouth) and it was too far forward to be his lympth glands. So needless to say, I didn't get any sleep at all the night before his amputation surgery. |
