We took Sydney in to get radiographs.(xrays) on his right front distal radius ("wrist). When we went into the exam room, I expressed my concern that it might be osteosarcoma. Syd went into the xray room and jumped his front paws up onto the table and got the xrays taken. We went back into the exam room to wait for the xray results. The vet came back into the room after a few minutes and put the xrays up on the lightboard and simply said "I think you are right". (Of ALL times *I* have to be right! Grrrrrr!!!). He showed me where the bone had partially been eaten away by the bone cancer. He said that the concern would be the bone would eventually fracture due to instability. He said he would call up to Kansas State Vet Teaching Hospital to see if they had any clinical trials going on and to see how much it would cost for amputation and chemo. My vet had doubts that Sydney would do well with amputation due to his size and problems with his hips. He said he has done a few amputations, one with a rottie that did well and another one that didn't adapt as well. The other vet in the office had a lab mix that had amputation due to an injury and the dog was adapting well. So that it was a personal choice on our part. The vet said he would call us back with the info from K-State.
