Bio

My full name is Jose Luis Reyes Concha. I was born in Chillan, Chile on July 4, 1981. I'm the older of 3 childs, my dad Jose Fernando is an engineer who teaches at college. My mom, Luz Amelia, is also a college professor for English. I spent most of my childhood in Chillan. I hit my first Tennis ball at age of 7, and it rapidly became my passion. I lived in Chillan until I turned 15, though I lived in Lincoln, NE for a couple of years when I was just a baby while my parents where in grad school. At age 15 I was positive that I wanted to become a professional Tennis player, so I came to the US for a little more advanced training in Miami, FL for 3 months. During this time I realized what it took to become a 'Pro'.

After I came back from Miami I was decided to drop off high school, and devote my self to practice, practice, practice. My parents agreed. This may sound ironic, since they both are college level professors, but they truly believed in my talent. I worked hard for several years, I had my ups and downs as a normal immature adolescent. Hard work payed off, I earned the #1 spot in the nation under 18s, in 1999. These were good times. I didn't really have any benefits being at the 'top', no sponsors, no 'wild cards', but I still enjoyed it.

I turned pro in January, 2000. Started off the year with a double surgery; Varicocele and a testicular nodule. I stayed off the courts for a couple of months and came back ready to go. I didn't perform well. Time was passing by and my confidence was going downhill. I had to make up my mind, go to College and keep trying, or stay in Chile and live like and an average (and/or mediocre) human being. Took off for college in August 2001 and joined the USC Upstate (USC - Spartanburg at that time) Men's Tennis Team. I played my best tennis ever (especially the first couple of years) during my student-athlete status. I started of as a Pre-Engineering major, but switched after 3 years to a double major in Math and Computer Science.

I am currently a 3rd semester senior, and have 3 jobs. I am a Catering Waitstaff Supervisor for Sodexho Food Services on Campus. I am also, the Assitant Coach for the Men's and Women's Tennis. And last, but not least, I string racquets at the Westside Club. My hobbies are to listen to music, watch movies, and computer gaming. My favorite bands are Slayer, The Berzerker, Cannibal Corpse, Death, and Napalm Death among others. My favorite computer game is Counter-Strike: Source. And, finally, my favorite movies are A Beautiful Mind and Bad Boys 2.

More to come...
