The Tanzanian Expeditionary Force consists of two regiments of regular troops from the Tanzanian Army.  The First Askari za Dunia ( 1st AzD), formerly the 102nd Infantry Regiment, and the Second Askari za Dunia ( 2nd AzD) which was formed specifically for the TEZ from volunteers from other Tanzanian regiments.

The Commanding Officer of the 1st AZD and senior officer in the Tanzanian Expeditionary Force is Colonel Mohammed Hassan.  The Commanding Officer of the 2nd AzD is Lieutenant Colonel James Chilmbwe.
