William F. Halsey, alias Bull

 

1882-1959. At the beginning of the war Halsey is commanding the 1st division of carriers including the Yorktown and the Enterprise. Agressive admiral in his tactics, Halsey is nicknamed the Bull by the press. He becomes vice-admiral in June 1940 and in 1942 he becomes the commander of one of the two Pacific Fleet. He is there for the first american strike back in the Solomon and he helps MacArthur to go upward toward Japan. In October he becomes the leader of the South Pacific Section. The peak of his history his with the Leyte Battle where he leads the 3rd Fleet: 16 carriers and 6 battleships, toward victory. Halsey becomes fleet admiral (5 stars) at the end of 1945.
