Each child will be offered food during our meal service. All children, except infants, will be served only at the posted meal times. Jar baby food and formula are not provided. Meals are provided for children who can eat solid food.
Meals that are regularly served in the Centers include breakfast, morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack. Dinner and/or evening snacks are provided for extended care on special occasions.
Meal times are posted at each module in the Center. Children must arrive within fifteen minutes after the start of scheduled meal service in that particular module to be served.
Children enrolled in the kindergarten program will have their lunch meals before going to school and upon return to the Center, depending on morning or afternoon kindergarten schedules. Breakfast begins at 0730. Children departing for school prior to 0750 must receive breakfast at home. Additionally, children must be at the Center no later than 0730 to participate in breakfast service prior to morning school departure.
Food from home is not permitted in the Center. The only exception to this is infant food. That includes bottled formula and unopened jars of baby food. Items such as candy, gum, and soda are not permitted in the Center. Any other food items are not accepted. Food items for special occasions (i.e., birthday cakes) are not authorized.
Infants will be spoon or bottle fed. Previously opened jars or cans of baby food will not be accepted at the Center. All bottles must be labeled and made of plastic (NO GLASS BOTTLES PLEASE!). Formula must already be prepared in plastic bottles.
If your child is allergic to specific foods, please include this information on your child's registration form.
The Center stocks a limited supply of baby food. The cost will be $1.00 per jar for strained baby food, and $1.50 per jar for junior baby food.
The staff plans cooking and food preparation projects for the children regularly. Children often assist with preparing a part of the lunch, rnaking a special treat for birthdays, or preparing a special breakfast. These experiences help children to learn measuring skills, properties of hot and cold and basic food preparation techniques. Children are closely supervised during these projects for safety.
