| The goal is to amass the World Wide Web's Largest Penny Collection. If you want to add to the jar, here are some suggested ways to proceed. |
Way #1
| Using the US Postal Service works well for small numbers of pennies. Based on the postal weight tables, The Monger created this handy Stamp-to-Penny Conversion Table, to show you exactly what it costs to mail up to eleven ounces of pennies. Using the U.S. Mail for greater numbers, quickly becomes too expensive, diverting too many pennies away from The Jar. Even the well healed, would find the P/P ratio (Postage per Penny) too high.
Based on the Stamp-to-Penny Conversion Table, you can mail approximately ten pennies for your .33 stamp. If this way is for you, please follow this procedure. If you are contributing more than 10 pennies, The Monger recommends you check out the next way. |
Way #2
| This way has the highest P/P ratio. After you have rounded up all the pennies you want to add to the jar, take them to your local bank and convert them to either check or currency. Once received at this end, The Monger takes the paper to a local bank, and converts it back to the coin we adore. |
Alternate Way #2
| A variation on Way #2, takes full advantage of the internet by using electronic money. If you already ply the web with your electronic wallet and want to use a service like this, let The Monger know which service you use and he will open an account. |

Final Step
Contact the and he will give you the address where you can forward your coin, currency or check.
All contributions will go to The Jar

Postal rates seem to always be going up. So your best bet is to check out the Postal Service Domestic Calculator. It will spit up current rates.
While it is now out of date, the following table was acurate in Jan of 2000.

Since the envelope will add to your total weight, The Monger figures you can mail no more than ten (10) pennies with a standard .33 stamp. Please note that if you go over the one ounce weight limit, by even the slightest amount, the charge is an additional .22 cents.

Your pennies will never get to the Monger if you simply drop them in an envelop. The machines the Postal Service uses to sort mail will tear the envelop to shreds, spilling the precious pennies to who knows where. You need to protect the coins in something a bit stiffer.
A method used by one contributor appears to work well. She used the cardboard from an empty cereal box. She simply cut out a piece about twice a wide as the envelop she used, folded it in half, taped two sides, inserted the pennies and taped the last side. She placed this construction into the envelop and it got to the Monger safe and sound. A 3X5 note card, in place of the cereal box cardboard, should also work.

Contributing to The Collection by Personal Check will provide you with proof of your donation. At some later date, your canceled check may come in handy at tax time.
If you do send in a personal check, please insure that there are sufficient funds in your account. Should your check bounce, The Monger promises he will create a special "RUBBER CHECK" page, listing your name address, phone number, whatever information he can find on you.

The Monger is already getting strange looks when requesting payment in pennies. He has had to frequent a variety of banks so as not to draw teller wrath.

This may just be one of those internet hoaxes, but the Monger has heard that mail can be tampered with while under the care of the Postal Service. So as not to temp greedy fingers, if you plan to contribute with hard currency, wrap it in paper...... out of site, out of mind.

Initially, The Monger was using his home address until his friends informed him he was crazy. Did he think the events on X-Files and Millennium come strictly from the imaginations of writers?
