HARVEST PARTY

The fall season is officially here and it’s time to celebrate the harvest—and that mean’s a party! This year’s 14th annual Harvest Party will be Wednesday, October 31, 6-8 p.m. downstairs in the Fellowship Hall. There will be face painting, game booths, junk food walk, a baked potato bar (nominal fee) and more! Costumes (no scary ones, please!) for adults and children are encouraged. Invite your friends and neighbors—the more the better. WE are looking for donations of bags of candy (lots of them!) and junk food items. These can be left in the church office during the week. If you have a great idea for a game, let us know. Co-chairs are Shannon Ellner and Anita Lewis. We will also be needing helpers at the games for one hour shifts.

CHRISTMAS MUSICAL PROGRAM

A Christmas program is in the planning stages. DiAnna Miller Pastor Ron Wilde (276-1775) will be combining our congregation and those from the Nazarene Church to present "I’ll Be Home for Christmas." All those interested in participating through drama and/or singing join us for a meeting held Sunday, Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. in our church sanctuary. A video will be shown of the Torrance, California, COG congregation performance of this musical. Call DiAnna or Pastor Ron if you have any questions. They hope they have a great turnout of actors AND singers.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING

Our Annual Business Meeting will be held Sunday, Nov. 4 in our sanctuary. If you consider this your church home you are highly encouraged to attend this important meeting concerning the "business" of your church (approval of 2002 budget and ratification of key church leadership positions). Voting requirements on b. board.

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

This is a new column that will be a regular in future newsletters, honoring those who serve the Lord and our church family.
This inaugural volunteer feature is a "two for one" in that it isn’t just one volunteer, but two, because where you find one, you’ll usually find the other. Jim & Patsy Phelps have been members of this church since 1973, as they raised daughters, Sherry and Karen. Over the years they have participated and led just about every activity this church has had to offer. They both have been long-time Sunday school teachers; Jim teaches adult classes and Patsy has always been involved with our children. Patsy has been busy as a Children’s church volunteer, Wednesday snack person, lay delegate, Fellowship Committee team member and officer, and our church’s first female Church Council chair for 5 consecutive years as well as heading up our Round-Up food booth for many years. Jim has served on almost every committee and board we have, including several terms on the Board of Trustees and Church Council, as a member and officer of both. Their work is continuous and tireless. If they see a need they have always had time to address it, whether it was with an active young family to also attend to, or a very busy time of "retirement." Obviously they have never retired from the Lord’s work, though. We would like to take this time to recognize all of the years of work and effort that they have given so generously to this church. They have worked together as a team to serve the Lord. Their dedication is an inspiration giving us all a shining example. These days they are also busy with grandchildren Joshua, Jessica, Jordan (Mike and Sherry Lambert’s children) and Matthew (Tom & Karen Demianew’s son).
