The Gray Wolf

This is one of the first drawings I did when I decided I wanted to start a website. You can see that the drawing is dated 2004. Before that all of the drawings I did were either for my own amusement or for gifts but when I decided to start my website of course I had to start scanning my original drawings and this one was the first.

I've always loved wildlife art and I've been drawing animals since I was a kid. It took me a long time and a lot of trial and error to learn to draw wildlife but since I enjoyed it so much I was willing to put in the time it takes to develop the skill. I don't believe that I was a naturally gifted artist I just enjoyed drawing so much that I put in tons of time and eventually got good at it.

I've always loved wolves. I think that they are beautiful animals and I find the structure and behavior of the pack fascinating. Once upon a time wolves or even more feared and misunderstood than they are today. There was a bounty on their heads and people actually got paid to kill them.

In 1995 wolves were reintroduced into Yellowstone National Park. At that time there were 3 packs and 21 wolves in Yellowstone. At the end of 2007 there were 11 packs with at least 171 wolves. For more information about Yellowstone's wolves you can visit http://www.nps.gov/yell/naturescience/wolves.htm

You can see more of my pencil drawings on my website http://www.adamvalentine.com . I have drawings of animals, portraits, celebrity portraits, and even a little fantasy art (which I hope to do more of soon). I also have instructional DVDs available for anyone interested in learning how to draw portraits or how to draw animals.
