In 1887, Dr. Carl Wiehle bought large
tracts of land east of Herndon, built a house (center), a three-sided Waiting
Shed and a town hall while incorporating a town in his own name.
This planned community never found success, although 80 some years later
a planned community called Reston did catch on. A later railroad
station and the gazebo (seen above c. 1900) can be seen in the 1950's
photo here and are still standing
beside the W&OD Trail.
