Camp Alger was one of a series of Army camps established at the outbreak
of the Spanish-American War in 1898.  It was located in the Dunn Loring
area of Fairfax County, around and south of the W&OD (known at the time as
the Bluemont Branch of the Southern Railway).

The photo above shows the passenger cars lined up and ready to transport
soldiers.  The photo below is of the camp with a YMCA tent in the foreground.
