Dunn Loring Station Area
1898
During this year, the Southern Railway served Camp Alger, which was a training
and shipping post for soldiers serving in the Spanish American War.  The camp
had a population of 20,000 and was laid out to the south of the railroad.  Extra
sidings were built to accomodate the many trains transporting soldiers in and out
of the camp.  The wye was constructed to quickly turn trains around.

The rectangular building below the D in Dunn Loring is the train station, located to
the north of the present W&OD Trail location and west of Sandburg Street.  The large
road to the left is Gallows Road.
