Izzy stood there in front of the locker. She glanced at her watch again. She was totally unaware that the answer to her boyfriend's whereabouts lay just beside her feet. "This is ridiculous!" She exclaimed suddenly. She glanced down at her shoe, the laces were untied. "Excuse me" A janitor walked by her, "Hun, can I just get that over there?" The janitor swept up a piece of crinkled paper adjacent to her shoe and left. Izzy bent over and tied her shoe ***************************************************************************************** The snow drifted slowly to the ground. A thick white blanket covered the sidewalk. Izzy stood in the corner adjacent the school. Beautiful, breathtaking, these words echoed in her mind. There was a way the snow drifted, as if tiny fairies fluttering down to meet their friends. The scene was trulysurreal. There seemed to be no sound but the faint whisper of the falling snow. Izzy exhaled and saw the small cloud she made fade with the snow. The snowflakes collected on her uncovered hair. She breathed slowly and tried to regain her thoughts. Alex maybe forgot, she thought, he's got so much things on his mind, he probably just forgot. Despite these excuses she made in her mind, she couldn't shake the uneasy feeling that Alex was trying to avoid her "Uh, sorryDux? Oh geez, I'm so sorry" A familiar voice said after someone knocked her off her feet. "No, no, I'm alright," Izzy said as she slowly tried to get up. "Dave, that's how many times now? I'm beginning to think you're doing this on purpose." David offered her a hand and brought her back to her feet. "I'm so sorry, I should've watched where I was jogging." "No, no, it's ok," Izzy wiped the snow off her jeans, "Besides, I shouldn't have been standing her like an idiot." Izzy caught herself looking into his deep eyes and quickly focused on her sneakers. "So, why are you jogging out here? It's snowing." "Uh, yeah, the gym was a little crowded. Where are you going?" "I think I'll go to the gym," Izzy brought herself to look at him. His eyes were so deep and beautifulshe felt her cheeks warm. Stop, stop...she kept repeating in her mind. Alex was the only guy for her. "Great, then I'll walk you there," Dave said as he began to walk in the direction of the gym. Izzy quickened her step to match his pace. "So, why are you going to the gym? You going to work out?" Dave said with a little grin. "Shut up! No," Izzy said as she playfully hit him. He started laughing and blocked her hit. She looked up at him, his eyes were as blue as ever, "no, I'm supposed to meet Alex there" As soon as she said her boyfriend's name, Dave's light blue eyes seemed to darken. He quickly turned to face the ground. Izzy looked at him with bewilderment then looked at her on steps. The sound of their steps were a rhythmic tune Stepcrunchstepcrunchstepcrunch The sounds were like a metronome in Izzy's mind. She looked up and realized that the gym was just a block away. She shivered slightly. "Are you cold? Do you want my fleece?" Dave finally said after the awkward silence. "No, no," Izzy said, "I'm finejust a little chill. I'm used to this weather, I'm a winter baby, remember?" "Oh, sh**," Dave stopped walking. Izzy stopped and turned to him. "I forgot to get you a present!" "What?, no, no, that's ok, you didn't have to get me one." Izzy said and started to walk toward the gym. He grabbed her arm. "No, I'll feel bad" He held her other shoulder and positioned her directly in front of her. "Just stand there." She kept on looking at him with bewilderment. He slowly stepped back and began to sing to her. He sang soo beautifully that Izzy thought that she was going to cry. Each note sent goosebumps down her back. When he finished a group of bystanders began to clap. Was Dave blushing? He stepped towards her. "That was so good! You're so sweet, thank you!" Izzy exclaimed. "It was nothing, Happy Birthday," Dave's eyes kept wandering to the ground. He started to walk towards the doors of the gym. She caught up to him and pulled him to face her. "No, it wasn't 'nothing' That was really something." She said. He finally looked up at her. He was a little red, but Izzy didn't know if it was from the cold air or something else. She found herself looking into his eyes again. She quickly looked down and felt her own cheeks redden. "That was nice, thank you." Izzy began to dig her foot into the snow. "No prob." He started laughing. She looked up. "What?" "You have like an inch of snow on your head." He laughed again and started to brush the snowflakes off her hair. His hand brushed her cheek. She looked up and brought herself to look into his eyes. A chill went down her spine and her heart skipped a beat. She was dizzy but she liked it. His eyes were deeper now. He inched closer to her. Izzy could hear her heart pound in her ears. They were getting closer. Suddenly he looked down and dropped his hand. He stepped back. "UmWe better go inside, it's getting colder." He said as he walked toward the doors. Izzy stood there watching him head into the gym. She just stood there alone in the snow |
