Izzy:  Scene 1

"I just don't know what to do," Izzy said as she focused on the wrapper of her protein bar.  She tried to blink back her tears.  "We never fought like this before.  It's been two days and he hasn't even talked to me yet."
"Don't worry about it." Chloe said as she kicked her locker open.  Chloe was Izzy's best friend, they've been together since pre-school.  "Everything will be fine, I mean it isn't the end of the world or anything." She smiled up at her friend as the locker swung open.  It was about 8 a.m. and the two had time to kill until homeroom.  Chloe bent down to get her books. "I'm sure everything will be fine.  What did you guys fight about again?"
"It wasn't anything really worth fighting about.  Some stupid thing on how he's always working.  He seems like he's either working or at practice.  We never seem to spend time together and he always seems to be avoiding me.  I just don't know.  Maybe we'll never get back together."
"What did I tell you?  Don't worry about it.  I've been with you guys since god knows when.  You two have been going for a year, right?" Chloe asked.  Her friend nodded. "And I've seen you guys get back together after even tougher fights." Chloe shoved another book into her locker.
Maybe Chloe was right, Izzy thought, maybe I'm just overreacting.  She forced a smile.
"Besides, he would be a total jerk if he did break up with you on your birthday." Her friend said as she slammed her locker.  "Feel better, and Happy Birthday!" Chloe handed her a present and gave her grieving friend a hug.
"Thanks, you're right." Izzy said as she received the hug.  She began to feel much better and realized that maybe things will get better.  The duo then walked down the empty corridor.  They were passing the cafeteria, when someone ran right into them.  The person then turned around and apologized.
"Oh, sorry" and began to pick up their books.  He looked up and realized who it was.  "Oh, Duck! It's your birthday? I didn't even know." He gave back their books. "UmI'm sorry again, I would stay but I gotta go.  Happy Birthday Izzy!" He said as he ran the opposite direction.  The two girls started down the corridor again.
"UhDuck?" Chloe asked her friend with more wonder than curiousity.  "Why did David Johnson call you 'duck'?"
  "Oh..That?" Izzy responded hesitantly, "Umit's just a nick-name I got last year."
  "Ok, from what?"
  "Oh, it was so embarrassing."
  "C'mon tell me." Chloe persisted.
"Well, it was in my theater arts class. I was supposed to read a line from 'Romeo and Juliet' with him.  He said his line so beautifully and so well."
   "And, how did you do?"
"Um I kinda got lost in his eyes, you know how I am with eyes, and well, I forgot them."
   "Omigod, really?"
"Uh-huh," Chloe began to blush. "And  I didn't know what to say, so I said 'quack'"
"Quack? Quack? God Iz, you are such a dork."
"I know, right."  They stopped right outside Izzy's homeroom.
"Well, that was cute that he gave you a nickname.  Waitdidn't you say that you thought he had a thing for you?"
"Yeah, but that was last year.  I think I was wrong because he never did anything about it."
"Well, I wouldn't have minded if he wanted to spend more time with me. He's soo fine."  Chloe said.
"Calm down. Of course I would've gone out with him if he asked me to, but well he didn't. and that was the end." Izzy said as she walked into the room. She gasped as she was welcomed with Alex and a box of roses.
"Hey, Iz." Alex said casually. "Happy Birthday."
Izzy was amazed. She glanced back at her friend who was smiling like an idiot.  He stepped closer to her and gave her an affectionate hug. "I'm sorry." He whispered in her ear.  Izzy gave him a kiss.  She was on the brink of crying. "Happy Birthday." He said again. And stepped back. Izzy smiled. Everything did turn out ok.
"Alright, now bear with me." Alex said as he stepped back. He got on his knee and sang a slightly out of tune "Seventeen Candles" and gave her a kiss on her hand.  The people in her homeroom clapped and laughed.  The bell for homeroom rang.
"Happy Birthday Honey." He said again. "I have to run to my locker, but I'll see you at your locker after school." He gave her a kiss and left the two girls to discuss the event.

Alex rounded the corner and hurried to his locker.   A thin red haired girl waited for him there.  He slowed his pace as he approached her. "Hi Krysta."
"Don't hi Krysta me." The girl replied. "I heard what you did."
"Don't worry, I'll break up with her. I'll do it soon."
"Yeah, whatever, and was that the way to breakup with her?" She looked down. He tilted her face to look at him.  Alex sensed that someone was nearby, but he didn't care.
"You know how I feel about you." He gave her a kiss.  "I'll break up with her soon." She nodded and started down the hall.  Alex turned around to face David.
"It seems that you're up to it again" David said as he concentrated on his combo.
"Lay off Johnson, it's none of your business."
   "It's not fair to Izzy,"
   "Lay off."
"You can't hurt her like that, she's my friend too."
"I don't give a f*** whose friend you are. Lay off.  I can handle this. Besides it isn't my fault you're such a chicken-wuss that you couldn't ask Izzy out yourself.  She's not yours, you had your chance." Alex said as he slammed David's locker closed. . .
