"No, no, I'm not going to let myself cry over this," Chloe whimpered. She was not about to cry over him. She was supposed to be the strong oneor at least she thought she was. The mall parking lot was quiet, except the druggies that were dealing on the other side of the parking lot. Chloe was sitting on the bus stop bench opposite the entrance of the mall. She whimpered now and again but she didn't let it go too far. "Noit's just a guy." She whispered to herself. She sniffed back the tear she let escape and forced herself to look up at the sky. ::creak, slam:: The mall doors opened. Chloe didn't look back, she had a feeling who it was. Sure enough, Caity came into the low light the lamplight was giving off. Chloe quickly wiped her face and looked up at the sky. "What the hell are u doin out here?" Caity clutched her shoulders. "It's freezing!" She quickly glanced at her friend who was staring blindly at the sky. She slowly looked up. She saw nothingjust stars. "What?" "Do you know that in Hawaii, you can see so many stars it's amazingover here you don't see as much." Chloe said nostalgically. "UhYeahOk" Caity stared at her friend. "Oh god, she's talking about Hawaiisomething must be up." She thought to herself. She slowly sat downstill staring at Chloe. "Are you okyou rushed out of there in a hurry." Chloe nodded her head slowly. "Why wouldn't I be fine?" She turned towards Caity. "I dunno. You just left" Caity looked at Chloe's face. It wasn't as cheerful as beforekinda sad in a way. "Nothing wrong. I just needed some air, it was getting very stuffy in there." "I know when something is wrong with youwhat's a matterwas it about him?" "No, I just got stuffy in there." Chloe looked down. "You know that the first thing he asked was where you were." "So" "Chloe, what's your problem? First you run out the mall in a hurry then you look all sad when I come to see what's up" "I justneeded some air." Caity got up. "Well, if you're not going to tell me what's a matter," she said with a frown. "then I shouldn't try to help you." She headed towards the door. Chloe turned around. "WaitCaity, I'll tell you." Caity smiled and returned to the bench. "So what's up?" "Well" Chloe told her the whole story of her little convo with herself and how she totally gave up on him. "I mean if he really wanted to go out with me he would've ask me already." "But you don't know that, he might be shy and waiting for the right moment." "Yeah, when I'm the last female on the earth." Chloe looked down at her shoes. "Look at the girls he goes out withlook at the girls he likesthey're skinny little things that are like as big as my pinky. Then look at meI have no chance of him even looking at me twice." "But you're different from them allyou're way smarter and you and him have a connection with each other that none of them have with him." Caity saw Chloe look up for a sec. "So I guess then u won't ask him to the prom." Chloe looked with depressed eyes. "No" "But what if he asks you to the prom?" "He wouldn't and if he doeshe would only want to go as friends and I don't think that I could handle that." Chloe got up and looked down at her friend. "You know when I was little I always dreamt that my prom date would be the perfect person. The prom is supposed to be this special moment where your date only sees you and no one else, where I could dance that special dance." Chloe turned away. "Where I would look into the eyes of someone who wanted me. I would rather go to the prom alone than go with someone who would never look at me that way." Chloe felt her eyes tear up. She sniffed and blinked letting a few tears escape. She felt Caity put her hand on her shoulder. "Oh Chloe, you shouldn't give up." "Too lateI think I have." "You don't know if he feels that way." "If something happens then something will happen." Chloe wiped her tears. "It just takes too much out of me if I continue with this." |
