"So many times," Chloe thought to herself as she was walking home. "So many times he had a chance to, but he never took it. What does that say about me? He must not like me that way. That's the only solution. I have to stop this. I must stop this." She started shake her head. "I have no chance. Look at the girls he likes, and then there's me. He won't even give me a second glance. That's it, I'm ending this. I have to give up this idea that he would even consider liking me. That's it, no more, nothing will happen." Chloe walked a little faster whispering to herself, "that's it, it's over." ***************************************************************************************** It was approximately 7 p.m., Chloe decided to go to the movies with Caity. She came to the conclusion that she needed to take her mind off some things. They watched some teen love story. The movie was really crappy, so crappy that Chloe and Caity were laughing at it rather than watching it. Despite the theme of the movie, Chloe had almost forgotten her little conversation with herself that afternoon. "God, this movie really sucks," whispered Caity beside her. Chloe glanced to the aisle, people were leaving the theater. There seemed to be only about five people left in the room. "You wanna go?" "Uh" Chloe glanced at the screen one more time. The heroine had broken up in tears because her nail was broken. "Yeah, I think if I stay here any longer I'll get sick." The two of the got up to leave. "Hey, what did you say happened to Izzy?" Caity said as the two left the theater. "She wasn't home, or she wouldn't answer the phone." Chloe responded. "She probably went out with Alex." She suddenly felt extremely thirsty. "UhCaity, I think I'll get a soda at the refreshment stand. Do you wanna come with?" "Um" Caity looked toward the stand. The line seemed to be endless. "You know what, I'll just meet you outside in the mall. Are sure you want to wait on that?" She pointed towards the line. "Yeah, I'm so thirsty. Ok, I'll meet you outside. Do you want anything?" "Nope, just hurry up." Caity said on her way out. Chloe impatiently tapped her foot on the carpet as she waited behind an elderly couple. She took a look around the line. It seemed that there were couples everywhere. The teenage couple sneaking kisses on the side, the middle-aged couple holding hands, even a little boy holding a little girl's hand. She brought her gaze back to the lit menu. She didn't want to think about that right now, she put those thoughts behind her already. The only thing on her mind would be how to get her wallet out of her bag without dropping anything. "Do you want anything else?" The guy in back of the counter asked. He looked extremely pissed off. Must be a bad night. "No, thank you." Chloe sensed that he was annoyed that she didn't buy anything else. "That would be $1.50." Chloe quickly gave him the money and rushed towards the exit. There were suddenly too many people for her to handle. She took a sip of her sprite. She felt relieved and started towards the door. She really took her time and walked slowly, taking little sips of her soda. Her mind was completely blank it seemed as if she was dreaming. She finally reached the door. She looked through the glass pane doors and saw Caity talking to someone. She couldn't make out who because there was an artificial tree blocking the way. She pushed the door and casually walked towards Caity. "Chloe, over here." Caity said as she waved her hands enthusiastically. Chloe quickened her step. "Look who's here." Xavier's face popped from behind the tree. Chloe stopped for a moment. Her heart sank when she saw him. All the promises she made to herself broke. She gripped her soda and started towards them. "Hey!" She said with a forced smile. "What are you doing here? I thought you were working." "Yeah I was." He said as he casually put his arm behind his neck. "I got off early and I decided to come here." "Really" She accidentally let that last word fade. She had no idea what else to say. "Chloe and me just walked out of 'Like' that movie totally sucked." Caity chimed in after a little awkward silence. "Yeah I know. You should've called me, I could've taken you to another movie." Xavier said casually. Chloe couldn't tell if the question was directed to her or Caity. At that moment a bunch of girls passed by. Xavier looked towards the ground. "Xavier wasn't that the girl you were going to take to the prom?" Caity said. "Are you still going to take her?" Thank you captain obvious. Xavier looked up. "Actually, noI've decided against it. She was toobubbly for me." "Or airheaded." Chloe said as she took another sip from her soda. Xavier stared at her for a sec and looked down again. "Yeah." "So who you taking?" Caity asked. Chloe cursed under her breath. Please shut up Cait. "Well, no one for the moment. I think I'll keep my options open for a while." He took a little glance towards Chloe. Was it a glance? Did he really? What did it mean? Chloe was mixed with so many emotions. "What's a matter with you?" Xavier asked suddenly. Oh shit. "Nothing, just tired." She took another sip from her soda. Shit, shit, shit, did he notice something? He shrugged a little and sighed. "Well, I hate to do this but I gotta jet. Bye ladies." He got up and started walking away. "Bye." Chloe said as Caity was waving like a dork. He waved back and for no reason started to sprint. Chloe sat down for a second. Caity started talking a mile a minute. "The first thing he asked is where were you. See look and now he doesn't have a date to the prom. Does he know that you turned down Clark? Does he know?" Caity was hopping up and down. "UhI don't think so." Chloe said. Suddenly she felt closed in again. "Uh..Cait, I think I'll go outside. I need some fresh air." "Do you want me to come with?" Caity looked at her friend with concern. "If you want to." Chloe got up and ran ahead of Caity. She couldn't stand it anymore. She pushed the double doors to reach outside. The cool night air bounced off her warm cheeks. She closed her eyes and let one solitary tear escape |
