Meriadoc Brandybuck

Meriadoc Brandybuck - Hobbit of the Shire.

"Meriadoc Brandybuck (Merry) was born in 1382 of the Third Age, the son of Saradoc Brandybuck and Esmeralda Took. Merry was a long-time friend of Frodo's, and chosen to join the Company of the Ring.

With closest friend, Pippin Took, Merry became separated from the Company at Parth Galen, and was captured by orcs. On escaping, Merry and Pippin met Treebeard and the Ents in Fangorn Forest, and both hobbits were crucial in rousing the Ents into action against Isengard.

Merry later became the squire of King Théoden of Rohan. He was present at the destruction of Isengard, and rode to the Battle of the Pelennor with the Rohirrim. His most renowned deed was aiding Eowyn of Rohan in the slaying of the Witch King, Lord of the Nazgul. He was sorely wounded, and later healed by Aragorn in the Houses of Healing.

After the War of the Ring, Merry accompanied his friends to bid farewell to Frodo at the Grey Havens. In 1432 of the Fourth Age, Merry 'the Magnificent' became Master of Buckland. In 1432 F.A., he married Estella Bolger. In the spring of 1482, he and Pippin handed over their offices and possessions to their children, rode away, and were not again seen in the Shire. Merry was heard to be Rohan for a time, and then he and Pippin went to Gondor. There, Merry lived out his days, and was laid in Rath Dinen upon his death.

When King Elessar passed away in 1541, the beds of both Merry and Pippin were laid beside the King's own."

Dominic Monaghan plays Merry in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings.
