European Union nickel guideline


According to the nickel guideline (94/27) of the European Union no decoration may be used, its nickel release five nano-gram per square meters and week by abrasion exceeds for the Ersteinatz. Are therefore suitable high-grade steel (316L), titanium, niobium and ptfe.

In the guideline of 30 June 1994 it remained first unconsidered that not the nickel content, but its delivery quantity is decisive for allergische reactions. Up to then the mostly used high-grade steel 316L was not certified therefore any longer, since its nickel content with 10% to values given in the guideline exceeded 14% those clearly. Instead afterwards particularly to titanium one changed over. Since the surface of titanium exhibits several unevenness however also after intensive polish, which favour the settlement of microbes and thus inflammations, steel applied despite the guideline further as better suitable material to the initial application. In 27 September 2004, the guideline was going by changed, according to which the upper limits for nickel orient themselves now at the nickel release
