This prologue will explain a Scottish word before I turn my poem loose
such as a little rodent we call a mouse the Scot's pronounce it 'moose'
So don't mix up your mouse and moose, as you read each and every line
if you remember that one is small, one is huge, you will do just fine.
A little mouse was slowly wandering through a Scottish field one day
she felt very sad and lonely so she thought she just might run away,
To a place where she wouldn't get laughed at or snared inside a trap
what a good idea she thought to herself, now all she needed was a map.
Off down the High Street the mouse darted as quick as she could go
because she didn't feel safe in this land where giant folk did grow,
As a lady opened the door of the book shop the mouse ran inside unseen
to hide there till the shop was closed was a plan of which she was
keen.
When all was quiet and things were dark she went searching for a book
where she could find some distant lands if she only knew where to look,
Just then she froze in terror as thunder seemed to fill the air
as ten noisy squeaking little mice suddenly came scurrying down the
stair.
"Hey! What are you doing you sneaky moose, trying to steal our cheese?"
"No,I'm trying to leave this land for good,so could you help me
please?"
"I'm just a sad and lonely moose who wants to find a place far away"
the ten mice thought for a moment and said,"Well we guess that that's
OK".
They showed her a map of the world and asked her where she wished to
go?
she said "I'm only a wee Scottish moose, so I really do not know",
"What about Canada to the West, they have plenty of moose over there"
a cheeky mouse said with a laugh as he went scampering back up the
stair.
"I'm sure I would like to go there if there are plenty of moose around"
"as long as they speak the same as me it will be easy to get around".
So next morning bright and early she went to the airport in a truck
to catch a plane to Canada to maybe meet a nice moose, with any luck.
With visions of wide open spaces where the moose were roaming free
the mouse sneaked in to the baggage hold and squeaked aloud with glee,
The mighty engines soon got roaring and took the mouse high in the air
would this journey end in happiness or would it end up in despair?.
