FLASH
CARDS (CARDS)—Flash cards may be made
from plain paper or cardstock. Write the word, term, or concept on one side;
the definition on the other. GRADING--Teacher will choose 10 cards at random
and ask you for the term or definition. You must score 70%+ to receive credit.
- ARTWORK
(ART)—Artwork involves the creation
of posters, brochures, models, mobiles, displays, websites, or PowerPoint®
presentations. GRADING—25% for scientific presentation and accuracy, 25%
for verbal correctness, 25% for artistic presentation and creativity, and
25% for verbal defense of what you’ve learned (Explain 5 things you’ve learned
about the topic as you’ve completed this project).

READING (READ)—Complete
a book or computer-based reading assignment.
Take notes, answer questions, or memorize concepts in your head.
GRADING—Teacher will ask you three questions based upon what you’ve read. You must answer at least 2 out of 3
correctly to receive credit.
- EXTENSION
READING (EXT)—Read for at least 40
minutes about a topic related to your unit of study. Source—newspaper, magazine, book, etc.
Meet with teacher to approve your sources and plan BEFORE you begin.
Summarize your reading. GRADING—you will talk with your teacher about what
you’ve read. Include the
following—completed summary, enthusiasm or engagement with the topic, and
ability of explain/defend 5 things you learned from the reading.

LAB—Complete lab and
write it up following the PEC Lab Write-up format and present it at your
science website or PowerPoint® presentation.

COMPUTER PROGRAM OR VIDEO (COMP/VIDEO)—Complete computer program or watch video.
GRADING—accurately explain 5 things you learned.

WORKSHEETS (SHEETS)—Complete
the worksheets. GRADING—teacher will ask you five things about what you
learned. You must answer at least 4 out
of 5 correctly.

(LECT)—Attend video or live lecture
presentations. Take notes. GRADING—teacher will ask you five
things about what you learned. You
must answer at least 4 out of 5 correctly.
- SCIENCE
PROJECT (SCIPROJ)—You may complete
one science project during each of the following courses: life science,
physical science, Earth science, or biology. GRADING—1st ½
credit: project set-up, layout, and beginning work. Meet with teacher to discuss layout,
timeline, and to develop grading rubric. 2nd ½ credit:
project/experiment completed and presented.
- WRITTEN
PROJECTS—each is to be
scientifically accurate and grammatically correct. Develop requirements and
rubric with teacher. Teacher will ask 5 questions & student will
respond.
