Northeast Trip 2007 - Quebec & New Brunswick
After leaving Isle aux Grues, we continued along the St. Lawrence River as far as Trois Pistoles. Then we cut south across New Brunswick, into Maine, to New Hampshire to get the shocks replaced, then back into New Brunswick.
Trois Pistoles wooden bridge
At Trois Pistoles Quebec, we could see the cathedral in the town from the campground we stayed in. It looked like something out of Russia to us. New Brunswick has many wooden covered bridges. This one is at Hartland, and is the worlds longest at 1282'.
Acadia
Bar Harbor
The rest of the days at Acadia were rainy and foggy. We rode around Mt. Desert Island on the free shuttle buses and tried little restuarants in the various towns on the island.
In Maine we spent about 5 days at Acadia National Park. The first day was sunny and we went down to Bar Harbor and enjoyed the beautiful evening.
piper dancers
Besides solo bag pipe competition, there was also competitions in tin whistle, fiddle, dancing, and pipe and drum bands.
We happened across a "Highland Games and Scottish Festival" at Fredericton New Brunswick. There were competitions for solo bag pipes.
mounties
pipe & drum band
While we were there, a group of Royal Canadian Mounted Police, called the "Musical Ride", came onto the fair grounds. They are well known in Canada and travel all over the country riding in formations to music.
There was a competition for pipe and drum bands, and there must have been several hundred bag pipes. It made the hair stand up on the back of your neck!
