History

The story begins when Eugenia Duran-Apostol wanted to create a new magazine because her previous magazine job, which is the Woman Home Companion magazine, closed. So with the help of some friends to join as stockholders, she created a new magazine called "Mr and Ms." It opened on the year 1975 during the Marcos rule. Mr and Ms was on its 8th year, when they heard that Ninoy Aquino have been assassinated in the airport after he arrived from exile in the United States. The Marcos-controlled newspaper companies did not make a report on it. Enraged, Eugenia made a special 16-page edition about it. Quickly, it became a bestseller and further made the Filipino's anger towards the Marcoses larger. One day, they decided to create another weekly to chronicle the trial, the newspaper was called the "Philippine Inquirer," which was named after the "Philipadelphia Inquirer." They invested on this, but they lost 900,000 pesos, even though they lost almost a million, they did not surrender and they succeeded by creating a new daily newspaper which was founded in December 9,1985. After that, they started to become famous and eventually, grew larger. They survived problems like stock problems, other companies and the government. Until Marcos was ousted because of their documentaries. Now, the Philippine Daily Inquirer is in its 20 years of service. Eugenia said that this was a great achievement. She also said that her dream of publishing a daily came true with her hardwork and with the help of God.

The Town that Printing Built
When the inquirer was born 20 years ago, it did not have its own printing presses. Instead, various small-scale newspaper printers divided up the printing. Some sections would be printed in Quezon City while others were done in Makati and the remaining in Pasig. But now the inquirer has its own printing press, located near the South Luzon Expressway, you will see a multi-colored building with the name and logo,Print Town. Printing is one of the hardest manufacturing activities that is best described as just not sexy. In the newspaper business, the star is the journalist but the pressman does the work. Yet, a visit to Print Town can be eye-opening. There are no longer dirty and sweaty work in producing printed materials as portrayed in movies. Technology have become a big part of the Print Towns success. On 1997, print town, together with inquirer, formed a new company, The Lexmedia Digital, whose job was to convert film-based advertising to digital. It has been a long way from the days when Inquirers printing presses were small, 25-year-old newspaper printers. Now, print town have devoted their everyday work for the development of having the best way to put ink on paper.
WEBSITE + TV = INQ7.NET
In the year 2000, the Philippine Daily Inquirer realized the limit of a traditional news only website. They needed a 24 hour cycle of breaking news similar to broadcast television where round the clock news gathering and reporting are made. So they formed a joint venture with GMA Networks Channel 7 to form INQ7.net The online website INQ7.net integrates the breaking news and multimedia contents from Channel 7. The first of this is the audio streaming of dzBB radio news and Channel 7 entertainment talk shows. The breaking news story offer a glimpse of how a story develops in real time and running accounts of how stories unfold. SMS breaking news is also available to mobile phone users. This successful project has enables many overseas Filipinos to read and listen news and view their favorite shows from home. Likewise, it expanded its viewers to office workers locally and overseas. In conclusion, the combined journalism efforts of Inquirer and GMA 7 has improved public Service.
