| Here's the assembled short block. The fuel pump is an Edelbrock Victor mechanical. It turned out to deliver waay too much for the two barrel. Clearance was an issue in the little Chevy II, so Mike decided to go with an electric pump at the tank. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Left: A special fuel pump pushrod is needed for the solid roller cam. Right: A phenolic fuel pump insulator is used instead of a metal plate. |

| I'm not saying the electric pump was a bad idea but here's a picture Mike fixing the electric fuel pump during the race. Next year they plan to use a better pump and bring more spares. It's little details like this that can ruin your day. |

| Even though this came later in the build process, here is the carburator and fuel regulation system. a phenolic spacer is used under the carb and a special plate to mount the regulator. None of this was "bolt-on". I had to machine, trim and fit everything. Notice I use purple dye to check fit and highlight scribe marks. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| This is a mock-up of the top end parts. Heads aren't painted, intake hadn't been milled yet. It's starting to look like an engine at this point. Notice how tall the carb is. Mike had to cut a hole in the hood of the Nova and make a scoop so it would all fit! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
