Every
player needs to make themselves familiar with the weapons
of Tactical Ops. After all, these are the tools that will
save your life. Weigh their advantages and disadvantages,
then test each one out to determine which one fits your
style of play best.
This section will be updated whenever new weapons are added
to or modified in Tactical Ops. Check back periodically
to see the latest updates.
NOTE: Full Load is the maximum amount of ammo you
can carry for the weapon. This is listed in terms of extra
clips, and does not count a clip loaded in the gun. Therefore,
the actual total amount of ammo you can carry for
the weapon is the Full Load + 1.
Pistols
| Glock 21 |
 |
Cost: $500
Ammo Cost: $15 per magazine
Magazine Size: 13 Rounds
Full Load: 5 Magazines
Firing Modes: Single shot, 3 rounds burst fire
Secondary Fire: None |
PROS: Fast rate of fire, burst mode,
large magazine, cheap.
CONS: Weak damage.
BOTTOM LINE: This is your standard sidearm,
the one you start every round with. While it may be
the weakest gun in the game, do not underestimate
it's power... many a player has been startled to be
cut down by this handgun. |
| Israel Military Industries Desert Eagle |
 |
Cost: $700
Ammo Cost: $25 per magazine
Magazine Size: 7 Rounds
Full Load: 7 Magazines
Firing Modes: Single shot
Secondary Fire: Laser sight |
PROS: Moderate damage, laser sight.
CONS: Small magazine,
expensive.
BOTTOM LINE: A better sidearm than the Glock
21 in terms of damage, but you will find yourself
going through ammo at a quick pace. Small magazines
mean reloads will be more frequent in a heavy firefight.
A great choice for those who have good ammo management
skills. |
Shotguns & Submachine Guns
| Ingram MAC 10 |
 |
Cost: $1200
Ammo Cost: $30 per magazine
Magazine Size: 32 Rounds
Full Load: 6 Magazines
Firing Modes: Full automatic
Secondary Fire: None |
PROS: Fast rate of fire, large magazine,
cheap.
CONS: Inaccurate.
BOTTOM LINE: Decent rate of fire and low cost
makes this weapon attractive early in the game or
when money is tight. Great when used as an ambush
weapon or to lay down suppressing fire. Large magazine
size means infrequent reloads, but any prolonged firing
will severely affect accuracy. Good medium range weapon
but most effective in close combat. |
| Heckler & Koch MP5N |
 |
Cost: $1500
Ammo Cost: $50 per magazine
Magazine Size: 30 Rounds
Full Load: 5 Magazines
Firing Modes: Single shot, 3 rounds burst fire,
full automatic
Secondary Fire: Silencer |
PROS: Decent range, three modes
of fire.
CONS: Inaccurate
during sustained fire.
BOTTOM LINE: Excellent for close-quarters combat,
yet still packs a punch at medium range. Three modes
of fire make this the perfect weapon for those players
who prefer to manage their ammo. Good rate of fire
combined with a removable silencer makes the MP5N
possibly the best all-around weapon in the game.
|
| Mossberg Shotgun |
 |
Cost: $1800
Ammo Cost: $40 for 8 shells
Magazine Size: 8 Shells
Full Load: 50 Shells
Firing Modes: Single shot
Secondary Fire: None |
PROS: Massive damage, wide shot
pattern.
CONS: Poor range,
slow rate of fire and reload time.
BOTTOM LINE: A great weapon for clearing out
a room full of enemies. When used up close it matches
any gun in stopping power, yet its efficiency suffers
in medium-ranged combat. It has a wider shot pattern
than that of the Benelli M3 due to a shorter barrel
length. Reload when the opportunity presents itself
because a long reload time will make you vunerable.
|
| Benelli M3 Super 90 Shotgun |
 |
Cost: $2200
Ammo Cost: $40 for 8 shells
Magazine Size: 8 Shells
Full Load: 50 Shells
Firing Modes: Single shot
Secondary Fire: None |
PROS: Massive damage, wide shot
pattern.
CONS: Poor range,
slow rate of fire and reload time, expensive.
BOTTOM LINE: This is THE weapon for close-quarters
combat. A few shots up close will kill even the most
heavily armored opponent almost every time. Wide shot
pattern makes accuracy less important; however, damage
drops off sharply with range. Reloading is painfully
slow, so reload frequently to minimize down time.

Assault & Sniper Rifles
| Kalashnikov AK-47 |
 |
Cost: $2800
Ammo Cost: $40 per magazine
Magazine Size: 30 Rounds
Full Load: 4 magazines
Firing Modes: Full automatic
Secondary Fire: None |
PROS: Large magazine size, cheap.
CONS: Inaccurate,
small full load.
BOTTOM LINE: You get what you pay for in this
entry level assault rifle. It's inexpensive price
tag makes it attractive, but it's small full load
will turn some players off to it. Inaccuracy during
sustained fire coupled with a small ammo reserve makes
this a weapon that has to make every shot count. Despite
it's shortcomings, though, this is still a fine rifle
to take into combat. |
| GIAT FAMAS |
 |
Cost: $3500
Ammo Cost: $50 per magazine
Magazine Size: 25 Rounds
Full Load: 6 Magazines
Firing Modes: Single shot, 3 rounds burst fire,
full automatic
Secondary Fire: None |
PROS: Fast rate of fire.
CONS: Inaccurate, fast rate of fire
eats ammo.
BOTTOM LINE: Perhaps the most interesting looking
weapon in the game, the FAMAS is designed to be both
compact and deadly. An assault rifle with a modest
price tag, fast rate of fire, average magazine size
and good damage capabilities seem to endear this rifle
to the masses. A fast rate of fire is a blessing and
a curse, however, as it will have you reloading frequently.
|
| Steyr AUG |
 |
Cost: $3750
Ammo Cost: $50 per magazine
Magazine Size: 30 Rounds
Full Load: 5 Magazines
Firing Modes: Full automatic, single shot
Secondary Fire: Scope |
PROS: Scope, fast rate of fire,
large magazine.
CONS: Inaccurate.
BOTTOM LINE: The Steyr AUG appears to be the
rifle of choice among many Tactical Ops players. A
large magazine size means you'll spend less time reloading
and more time shooting, a task which is made that
much easier with the attached scope. Don't let these
luxuries fool you, though, because accuracy takes
a noticable hit during sustained fire. This is a weapon
best used at medium-range with short, controlled bursts.
|
| Heckler & Koch SR9 |
 |
Cost: $4000
Ammo Cost: $40 per magazine
Magazine Size: 20 Rounds
Full Load: 4 Magazines
Firing Modes: Full automatic
Secondary Fire: None |
PROS: Deadly damage, accurate.
CONS: Slow rate
of fire, expensive.
BOTTOM LINE: This rifle is more like a cannon
because it can cut through an armored opponent like
a hot knife through butter. Most players are put off
by the slow rate of fire or the steep price tag, but
in the hands of a capable player it can be a devastating
weapon. Designed primarily for medium- to long-range
combat, it becomes difficult to use up close. If you
are willing to trade quantity for quality, then this
is your weapon. |
| Heckler & Koch PSG1 |
 |
Cost: $4500
Ammo Cost: $20 per magazine
Magazine Size: 5 Rounds
Full Load: 5 Magazines
Firing Modes: Single shot
Secondary Fire: Scope (two magnification levels) |
PROS: Adjustable scope, deadly damage,
fast rate of fire.
CONS: Tiny magazine, expensive.
BOTTOM LINE: The Ferrari of sniper rifles.
Scope allows two magnification levels for all your
sniping needs. Great weapon to reach out and hurt
someone with, but is unwieldy at close range. Rapid-fire
capability gives you the edge against fast moving
enemies. Magazine only holds 5 rounds, so amateurs
should be wary of running out of ammo quickly.
|
| Parker-Hale M85 |
 |
Cost: $5500
Ammo Cost: $15 per magazine
Magazine Size: 10 Rounds
Full Load: 5 Magazines
Firing Modes: Single shot
Secondary Fire: Scope (two magnification levels) |
PROS: Adjustable scope, lethal damage.
CONS: Expensive.
BOTTOM LINE: This rifle is a favorite among
snipers mainly because it has a greater magazine size
than the PSG1. One shot, one kill... only heavily
armored opponents are likely to need a second shot.
The M85 is a top-notch sniper rifle that is excellent
in its stopping power and accuracy. A steep price
tag will keep some players from using this as their
primary weapon, so it's a safe bet that someone using
this weapon knows what they're doing. |
Other Weapons
| Combat Knife |
 |
Cost: N/A
Ammo Cost: $100 for 6 knives
Magazine Size: N/A
Full Load: 7 knives
Firing Modes: Throw, slash
Secondary Fire: Clean knife |
PROS: Lethal damage, silent.
CONS: Can only be
used at close range.
BOTTOM LINE: The combat knife is one of two
weapons available to you at the start of each round.
While certainly a deadly weapon in any close combat
situation, sneaking up behind your enemy means there
is a good chance that one swift stroke will take their
head off. The close range required for proper use
is a severe drawback. Buying more knives will allow
you throw them at your enemies from a distance. This
is a weapon best used when the enemy is unaware of
your presence or you are out of ammo. |
Explosives
| Flashbang Grenade |
 |
Cost: $400
Ammo Cost: N/A
Magazine Size: N/A
Full Load: 1 grenade
Firing Modes: Throw
Secondary Fire: None |
PROS: Incapacitates enemies.
CONS: Affects everyone
within range.
BOTTOM LINE: This grenade can really help you
out during a firefight. When detonated, it sends out
a blinding light, incapacitating everyone within it's
radius. The affected person's vision will return gradually
over time, but during the time they are blinded their
screen will be bright white making moving and shooting
almost impossible. A word of caution: the blast will
affect everyone inside it's radius including you and
your teammates. Make sure you inform your team to
give them adequate time to prepare. |
| Concussion Grenade |
 |
Cost: $500
Ammo Cost: N/A
Magazine Size: N/A
Full Load: 1 grenade
Firing Modes: Throw
Secondary Fire: None |
PROS: Shock wave has moderate damage
radius.
CONS: Affects everyone
within range.
BOTTOM LINE: This grenade sends out shrapnel
in every direction as well as a shock wave. While
it is a decent grenade to have in combat, it's damage
radius seems to be pretty easy to avoid. Use this
on groups of enemies or when you have them pinned
in a room or hallway. Again, the blast will affect
everyone inside it's radius including you and your
teammates, so excercise caution when using it.
|
| HE Grenade |
 |
Cost: $800
Ammo Cost: N/A
Magazine Size: N/A
Full Load: 1 grenade
Firing Modes: Throw
Secondary Fire: None |
PROS: Explosion has large damage
radius.
CONS: Affects everyone
within range.
BOTTOM LINE: Heavy damage dealing capabilities
makes this grenade the king of damage... lobbing one
of these onto the combat field will cause people to
scatter in every direction. Respect the power of this
weapon, because as with all grenades, the blast will
affect everyone inside it's radius including you and
your teammates. |
