Marshall's Review of the
Royal ELinea 16
Page Four
The great selling point of the ELinea is its built in modem and
ability to send and receive email messages, either via Royal's own
email service, or any POP3 ISP. Here is a photo that shows where the phone
line can be connected to the ELinea 16.
According to the printed manual (rather small) that comes with the ELinea,
messages over 3K in length cannot be retrieved. The built in modem operates
at a good speed of 56KB (theoretically). Royal's email service is under
$10 per month, and for an additional $10 per month you can get full ISP
service for your PC, too.
Here is a photo of the ELinea showing how it connects to the serial cable
that goes to your PC.
The ELinea 16 is powered by a lithium ion rechargeable battery
(I would rather use AA or AAA batteries, as they are easily obtainable).
It may also be powered by an included AC adapter. Here is a photo of the battery and the adapter.

If you want to try data entry by means of a keyboard, there is an
optional folding keyboard that can work with the ELinea 16. I do not have
one of these keyboards, but my untested personal opinion is that it is too
small and awkward to be of much use. Here is a photo:
