Marshall's Review of the
Sharp (Radio Shack) EL-6996c
Page Four of Five
From my own personal viewpoint, the greatest failure of
the EL-6996c is its "memo" feature. Memos on the OZ-770
may be up to 3000 characters in length. However, the EL-6996c
limits memo length to a mere 96 characters. The
keyboard would easily lend itself to typing longer memos, but
Sharp has made this impossible. Here is a photo of the
open EL-6996c, which gives a good view of the keyboard.
Two improvements would make this a really nice organizer: first, a screen as large as that of the OZ-770, and second, the ability to write memos a few thousand characters in length. It would also be nice to be able to transfer a 2000 character memo from Outlook to the organizer.
Another strength of the EL-6996c is its ability to synchronize with Microsoft Outlook via an included serial cable. Using RuppLynx Express, I migrated all my OZ-770 information to Outlook. Then using the software included with the EL-6996c, I easily synchronized the Outlook information with the EL-6996c. The software places an icon on your desktop,
and another (red/blue) icon in the tray at the bottom of the screen.
Here is a screen capture of the synchronization software on my monitor:
And here is my EL-6996c serially connected, and receiving information from my PC:
As I've written before, I prefer the Daytimer software that comes with the OZ-770 to MS Outlook.
