Here are some descriptions of the applications I find useful on my Palm VIIx. I have also included screenshots and links to downloads, in case you want to try them out.
Launcher III by Bozidar Benc is a kind of tabbed (across the top) "program manager" for the Palm. You may create and label tabs at the top of your Palm screen as you please, making it easier to see and use all your applications, without having to scroll down the screen. You can find several versions on the internet. Version 2.2 works on Palm OS 3.5, and supports either black and white or color screens. Mr. Benc has discontinued both in favor of a new shareware version: LauncherX.
Launcher III displays the time/date, free memory, and battery strength at the bottom of the screen. Tap on the date to switch between current date, time, and day of the week. Tap on the battery voltage to switch between showing your battery power as a voltage or a percentage bar or free memory as a number or percentage bar. There are also five icons at the bottom of the screen: trash can, beam, information, power off and lock. Applications can be dragged to the trash can with the stylus for deletion. I use the trash can a lot, because I'm always trying new applications. If I don't like them, I just trash them. The information icon leads to detailed information about any file on your Palm. Download Launcher III (version 2.2) HERE.
