The following step by step
directions
will assist you as you
practice the new skills you learned during the training session. I have
included the Help Menu process as it may be a valuable resource now and
in the
future.
Help:
- Click Help
- Click Microsoft
Word Help
- Type the word(s)
you want to find as directed by Office Assistant
- Click Search
Selecting
Text:

Saving Your Document:
- Click File
- Click Save
- Type in a name
under File name
- Click Save
Closing a Document:
- Click File
- Click Close
- Microsoft Word
asks if you want to save changes
- Click Yes to save
or No to discard the changes
Exiting Word:
- Click File
- Click Exit
- Microsoft Word
asks you if you want to save changes
- Click Yes to save
or No to discard the changes
Opening a File:
- Click File
- Click Open
- Select File you
wish to open
- Click Open
Copy:
- Select the word
you wish to copy by dragging your cursor over the text
- Click Edit
- Click Copy
- Place your cursor
where you want the copy inserted
- Click Paste
Paste:
- To put an item or
words into your document that you have cut or copied, place your cursor
where you want the copy inserted
- Click Edit
- Click Paste
Changing Font Size:
- Click Format
- Click Font
- Click Font tab
- Scroll through
Size box
- Preview sample of
font at bottom of dialog box
- Click OK
Changing Fonts:
- Click Format
- Click Font
- Click Font tab
- Scroll through
fonts in Font box
- Preview sample of

- Click OK
Cut:
- Select the words
you wish to remove by dragging your cursor over the text
- Click Edit
- Click Cut
Line Spacing:
- Click Format
- Click Paragraph
- Click drop arrow
on Line spacing in the Spacing dialog box
- Select appropriate
spacing
- Click OK
Alignment:
- Click Format
- Click Paragraph
- Click Indents and
Spacing tab
- Click drop arrow
on Alignment box
- Select Left,
Centered, Right, or Justified
- Click OK
Undo and Redo:
- To remove the last
command, click Edit
- Click Undo
- To redo the action
that you just removed, click Edit
- Click Redo or
Repeat
Changing Font Style:
- Click Format
- Click Font
- Click Font tab
- Scroll through
Font style box, choose Bold or Italic

Changing Font Color:
- Click

Using Clip Art:
- Click Insert
- Select Picture

Resizing Images:

- With mouse, move
cursor over handles at corner or side of image
- Hold down left
mouse button and drag to resize image
- Release mouse
button
Moving Clip

Bullets:
- Click Format
- Click Bullets and
Numbering
- Click Bulleted tab
- Select bullet
design
- Click OK
Numbers:
- Click Format
- Click Bullets and
Numbering
- Click Numbered tab
- Select number
format
- Select Customize
- Click OK
Viewing Headers and
Footers:
- Click View
- Click Header and
Footer
- Type into the
Header or switch to Footer box and type
- Click Close
Page Numbers:
- Click View
- Click Header and
Footer
- Choose either
Header or switch to Footer box
- Click on page
number button
- Click Close
See it Before You
Print it:
- Click File
- Click Print
Preview
- Click the Printer
button to print
Printing:
- Click File
- Click Print,
select correct printer
- Click OK
Spell Check:
- Click Tools
- Click Spelling and
Grammar
- Microsoft Word
will list a word not included in the dictionary
- Select Ignore to
leave the word as you typed it
- To change the
word, select a word from the Suggestions list
- Click Change
- Click Close
Grammar Check:
- Click Tools
- Click Spelling and
Grammar
- Microsoft Word
will show grammar problems
- To correct
grammar, select a Suggestion from the box
- The Office
Assistant will explain the problem
- Click Change
- Readability
statistics will appear
- Click OK
