| Paul Beauchamp Legg QCVSA, has the distinction of being the youngest surviving captain of what was the longest serving airline in New Zealand. During his 42 years of active flying, over 11,000 hours in the air he was awarded The Queen's Commendation for Valuable Service in the Air, and the Royal Humane Societies Bronze Medallion for life saving, (from the air). He held a flight instructors authority for 20 years, both in New Zealand and Australia. In June 1962 he formed N.Z. Aerosales Ltd., originally to sell aeroplanes but soon after started the first flying school after WW2 to stand on its own feet. He is therefore the grandfather of New Zealand flying schools. During Paul's flying career he did instructing, charter, air taxi, airline ambulance, aerial topdressing, aerial photography, experimented with rainmaking, aerial firefighting, (the first in N.Z.) and developed "Legg's Indian Rope Trick" an method of raising and lowering items from an aeroplane. To date he has written 12 books, mostly about flying. |
