General Manager, TRIFED, Bhubaneswar Importance of the the Seminar A very large majority of health problems are directly connected with an improper nutrition, especially in a transition period from rural self-sufficient communities to a market economy and urban development. Indian weather allows easy cultivation of many vegetarian foods, but most of them are not properly utilized and distributed (fruits, fresh vegetables, spinach, pulses, etc.). The encouragement of kitchen gardens and permanent agro-forestry cultivations in unused patches and stripes of land, will go a long way in supplying valuable nutrients to the local residents. Improper nutrition is mainly due to lack of knowledge about the real facts of nutrition, especially in the weaker sections of society, in children and women.
