Buddy Knox

Buddy Wayne Knox was born on 14th April 1933 in Happy, Texas. In 1948 he wrote a song that he called Party Doll. In 1954 his family moved to Canyon, Texas and while a student at West Texas State University, he met Jimmy Bowen and they formed a group called the Rhythm Orchids. In 1956 the group flew to New York where they recorded Knox's old composition of Party Doll for Roulette Records. The song was recorded as Buddy Knox and the Rhythm Orchids.

At the same session the group recorded I'm Stickin' With You as Jimmy Bowen and the Rhythm Orchids. Both were released in February 1957 with a different B-side; the result was that each song became a million seller. I'm Stickin' With You rose to number fourteen, while Party Doll went all the way to number one. In 1957 and 1958 Buddy Knox and the Rhythm Orchids placed a total of eight songs on the charts.

Buddy Knox appeared in the movie Jamboree along with some of the top rock 'n' roll stars of the day in 1957. Their last Top One Hundred entry in 1959 was a song that was banned on many radio stations. Buddy Knox contracted cancer and passed away in February 1999.
