Senior Allies (SA)
Art
Lo is my first Senior Ally who has been my best friend for a decade.
He and I had been in
the same class for 7 years from F1 up to Upper 6. We share lots of
interests in common,
especially our love towards creative stories. We also share many good times
and bad times.
He co-authored numerous works with me, including "the Marian Sisters" and
"Lady Crusaders".
He has served as a Group Leader for the Prefects' Board during my term
as the Deputy Head
Prefect. And he helped me out in many projects, the most important of which
was the "Boys in Blue".
He will be graduating from CityU with a BBA degree majored in SOM in 2002.
Thanatus
Lai, previously known as "Din-ge-la", first met Paul Yu during the
summer holiday in 1993,
when they helped organise the Wah Yan game stalls for the Caritas Bazaar'93.
And they had been
in the same class for several years until he left for the UK after the
HKCEE in 1997.
In England, Thanatus had been pretty successful both in his GCSE and GCE
A Levels, and he will
complete his undergraduate studies in 2002 with a BSc in Maths.
He will go on for another undergraduate degree course: BA (Combined Honour)
in Archaeology,
Egyptology and Geography (or alternatively Music, as he had told me) in
the University of Liverpool
and probably may pursue the PGCE in the UK also after that.
Thanatus has always been a great organiser of parties for various purposes,
eg b-day parties, and
most of my b-day parties during the last 5 years were all his marvellous
productions.
Vinton
Poon has known me since 1993 when both of us were in F2A1, fighting
against "Kay Lar Hung".
The Summerbridge'97 experience brought us together and we became very good
friends afterwards.
From F6 onwards, our friendship continued to grow and blossom. When
we both entered HKU, we offered
support to each other to brave many different hardships.
Vinton is most respected by me for his philosophy of life and viewpoints
on moral and relationship issues.
And he will be consulted whenever I have to make an important decision
on these issues.
In the years 1999-2001, he was "on exchange" to HKU for a couple of years
before "returning" to his
alma mater (University of Edinburgh) in Scotland in October, 2001.
He's now studying linguistics and it is expected that he'll graduate in
2004 with an undergraduate MA.
Yonie Sung is my
good friend since 1993 (F2) and we came to know each other much more deeply
since 2000,
when both of us began to have lunch together regularly in HKU. He is a
big fan of bus and related fields,
and this accounts for his choice to study Industrial Engineering at university.
He is also a cat-lover, and
he was the founder of the Wah Yan College Cats.
Yonie has been a great friend of mine, and his contribution largely stems
from his laughter and inspiring
thoughts. This helped me much in counter-balancing the apathetic and boring
U-life.
He will finish his first degree (BEng(IMMSE)) in 2002 and will go to work
after graduation.
Nigel
Tsang is another SA of mine for many years. He is an optimistic person
who will rarely get angry.
He has lots of interests in many different fields of life, ranging from
travelling to designing. He acts like a
living encyclopedia and HK map to us, and I seek help from him many a times
for practical stuffs.
He is also a great companion to me because he has always been with me in
many occasions, easing my
fears and worries of being alone (eg the SLC'01 and the City Hall concert).
Nigel is now a Year 2 student in PolyU, taking courses on Marketing.
Thomas Chan was
admitted as a Senior Ally in 2000, although I have personally known him
for many years.
Thomas is a very wise man whose actual age ought to be over 70. He is most
well-known for his critical
anaylsis of life issues and objective appraisal of various options when
making an important choice. This
is the reason why he had been consulted by me many times and his ideas
are much appreciated.
He will be leaving for the US in late 2002 to go on for his further studies,
and at present, he is a HKU
student studying Cognitive Science.
Joseph Mak, commonly
known as "Lo Mak", is the first Senior Ally returning from a non-Wah Yan
HK constituency.
He was a Wah Yan Kowloon graduate had been a close friend of mine since
2000, when both of us
became ExCo members of the Catholic Society in HKU. We became very
good friends due to the common
"Katso" experience. His kind assistance during the early period of the
Law Cell would always be remembered
and appreciated. We even went on a trip to South Korea in August, 2001.
It is great to have a friend like him
because he is very mature and helpful.
Since he is enrolled in the 5-year Dental degree programme, he will be
graduating sometime in 2004.
Doris Chan is the
most recently-admitted Senior Ally who has become good friend of mine after
we jointly organise
the Katso Orientation Programme in 2000. We share lots of common topics
and viewpoints.
The fact that she and I are both registered with the Social Sciences Faculty
is another reason why we led similar
experiences and thoughts.
She is currently a Psychology student who, upon graduation, wish to establish
her career in the business world.
Ada
Lam was admitted as a Senior Ally only very recently. Before her admittance,
I had come to know her
indirectly through Vinton Poon, SA since she was a "jong-mate" of Vinton.
To me, Ada is a very mature,
independent and reliable lady. She has been invited to participate in many
of our Coquitlam activites, eg the
High Table Dinner 2002. Night chats with her are undoubtedly great
experience and her words had been
vitamins to my unhealthy U-life.
It is also worth noting that her views and approaches to questions of life
are greatly persuasive to my decisions.
Principal Allies
David Fung is the
first-ever Principal Ally of Paul Yu who has been his classmate and friend
for quite some
years. In my memory, "Fung Wai" is a very intelligent and analytical
person. He is very well-known for his
very outstanding academic records. His favourite sport is football.
He will complete his BBA (A&F) degree in the year 2002 and he'll be
working for a prestigious accounting
firm after the summer holiday.
Olive Chu (Ki)
is the first Principal Ally of Paul Yu from the HKU constituency. Ah Ki
was my "jong-mate" when
I served at the HKU Katso ExCo. She loves playing sports and challenging
physical activities very much.
She also enjoys challenging and teasing me. She is now studying Mechanical
Engineering in HKU.
Kevin Poon the
most recently admitted Principal Ally and is the first one from the Government
& Laws class
who became close friends with me. His love towards law and his views on
U-life, studies, relationships, etc
deeply impressed and influenced me. We have also collaborated on
several group projects.
Kevin is, similar to Nigel SA, driving-licensed and he was the co-initiator
of the Ride to Sai Kung. He was
invited by us to the Ride to NT in June.
