A Pagan Perspective
A personal narrative of how Paganism has been integral in one person's life

Pagansim is my way of life.  It is a natural way of life for me.  I do not specifically follow any certain tradition under the title of Pagan.  My life has been filled with more wonder and reverence since I became a Pagan.  The world seems a lot smaller in the since that I am more focused and I feel like I have found my place in it.  On the other hand, the world seems so much larger in respect that I have more knowledge and awareness to the diversity around me and I am much more opened minded to experiences or ideas.

I was born and then raised a Catholic.  Through this whole time, the first 17 years of my life, I never had any real deep internal disire to learn what I though, felt, about my religion.  I especially never thought about or tried to decipher my own religion, which was a big no no, as in most Christian religions.  However, during my junior year in high school, I had an essay assignment on any topic I wanted to write about.  I chose the modern religion of Witchcraft.  I must say this was the best and most important thing I have ever done.

Before I started the research processs, I thought I was going to find  traditional, Christian, stereotypical information pertaining to Witchcraft as evil; satanic; a green faced, warty nosed hag standing over her cauldron strring to make a potion for evil, ungodly purposes.  As I began to speak with a few people, read and review material related to Witchcraft, I realizeed to my amazement, this was all completely and utterly false.  Since then my life has never been the same.  Since I opened my eyes to Paganism (and a lot  more), my life has been filled with so much more reverence, I feel much more alive and  aware of things which I never knew existed before.

Paganism, when I first started to learn about it, gave me a way to reflect upon my own religious beliefs.  I got to study something that was totally different from what I was used to and had been told was true.  It was also a way of learning about other ways of life and lifestyles of people who also inhabit this very same planet.  I began to study all kinds of religions beyond Christianity with its many denominations and Paganism.  So I read and read and read about different religions and other faiths, but through it all I kept bringing myself to a point where I could only comfortably label myself a Pagan.

I do not follow the religion of Wicca.  I do not subscribe to any one set of beliefs for any tradition of Paganism or Witchcraft.  Nor for that reason, any other religion.  That is the main reason why I call myself a Pagan.  I feel comfortable with the term and what it means to me, without being subject to too much.
