Introduction to the School

Montfort Brothers of St.Gabriel
The Society of the Montfort Brothers of St.Gabriel, was founded about three hundred years ago by a French Saint named St.Louis Marie De Montfort. As a Society they tried to live the Gospel values after the example of Montfort, who lived radically in his own times.
Educational apostolate is the ministry for which they have been called and sent forth after the special charism of their founder-De Montfort.
In their educational apostolate, they give priority to faith and value formation in the young. Their primary option is in the favour of the educationally and economically less favoured. They collaborate with the concerted action of educators, parents and other professional bodies who also work in the same field for cultural, social and technical development of the country.
They proudly share many religiostic and cultural experiences inherited in the society for over three centuries.Holistic approach to the education and building of children sets the environment for a suitable educational mind
The Montfort Brothers started their first mission in India in 1903. Today they work in almost all the states of India,in varied fields that include formal and non-formal education; both technical and academic, care and rehabilitation of street children and orphans, social action and village uplifment programmes.
St.Louis Marie De Montfort
St.Louis Marie De Montfort was born at a place called Montfort in Western France on 31st January 1963. His parents were Jean Baptiste and Jeanne Robert.
After his studies at St.Sulpice Seminary in Paris, he was ordained a peiest in the year 1700. As a missionary Montfort lived a good deal among the poor people, He had concern for the marginalised, the sick, the uneducated, the disabled, all those whom the society neglected. He was a man of paradoxes. He was a man of character: violent at times, and yet very kind and compassionate. He was always active, and yet he found the time for prolonged contemplation and prayer. He was persecuted and despised, and yet he never complained. He was aware of his limitations, but at the same time he excelled in almost all the fields he ventured into: writing, carving, drawing, preaching, organising and teading men to God.
For the people with the same vision who joined him he founded the Society of the Brothers: 'Brothers of St.Gabriel', the society of the Priests called 'The company of Mary' and the Society of the Sisters known as the 'Daughters of Wisdom'
After 17 years of active ministry , he died of exhaustion at the age of 43, in the year 1716, at Saint-Laurent-sur-Sevre in France.
Principal's Message
I deem it a great privilege and honour to present before you St. Paul's Higher Secondary School, Montfort Hills, Aizawl, Mizoram.
It was in the year 1954 the Holy Cross Brothers of the Canadian Province sowed the seed which today has grown into a mighty Institution. When the foreigners were forced to leave the country in 1969, the reins of St. Paul's were handed over to the Diocese of Silchar .
On 10th June, 1975 the Management of the school was handed over to the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel. Thanks to the vision of Rt. Rev. Denzil D'Souza, the then Bishop of the Diocese of Silchar, for inviting the Brothers. This is the beginning of a new era in the history of St. Paul's. If Bro.Godfrey can be called the founder of St.Paul's, Bro. Abraham can rightly be called the refounder.
It was a call of God made through his superiors to Bro. Abraham to go to a distant land of Mizoram with a young and energetic band of Brothers with him. In all humility and trust in God like Abraham of Old Testament, he landed in St. Paul's to take over as the Headmaster of the school. Under his able leadership for a decade or so (1975-1986), St. Paul's transformed itself into a name to reckon with - A premier Institution.
The school is to be judged by the quality of the pupils who have crossed its threshold. Undoubtedly, St. Paul's has come up to this criterion due to the sheer hard work of its staff over the years. The successive headmasters consolidated what has already been set in motion. They have spent their past for our better future. When Bro. Jose Nirappel (1986- 1990) completed the new High School block, it was Bro. Thomas Plothottam in whose time the foundation stone was laid for the beautiful auditorium, which was completed by Bro. Jose T.J. It was during his tenure as the Principal that the Govt. of Mizoram upgraded the School into Hr. Sec. School. Down through the years, quality education has been maintained without neglecting the spiritual formation of the students.
Many ask what is the secret behind getting good results year after year .It is quite a big secret. It is the hardwork, determination and the single mindedness of our staff, well disposed students, the motivating and co-operative parents and well wishers and the support and encouragement given to us by the State Government, particularly the Department of Education. When we do our best, God does the rest.
It is said that the New Testament is the fulfilment of the Old Testament. The old era of St. Paul's (1954- 1975) has given rise to the new era. We all belong to the big family called Paulians. The present students take the example of their elders and thus the "Paulians' Alumni Association" came into existence in 2000. When the young meets the old it is the family reunion - "Paulian Togetherness". It is the convergence of the past with the present. The old are rejuvenated and the young are strengthened and encouraged to dream for a better future and the success story continues.
The motto of St. Paul's is "To serve the Lord and the Country". It is based on a Christian vision that sees God as our Father, we as His children and brothers and sisters of one another called to live in love and peace. And the resources of the earth are for the welfare of one and all. To serve our countrymen and women is to serve God. It is this challenging mission that we are called to undertake as Paulians. The real challenge in life is not just getting what you want, but continuing to want what you have. What we believe is what we create.
Long Live St. Paul's, the Paulian Family.
May God bless you.
Bro. PK James (Former Principal)
