THE PAUL VARGAS SITE
San Leandro's Firewall Against Higher Taxation and  Property Rights Intrusions

We are valiant defenders of Private Property Rights at The Paul G. Vargas Site.  As such, we are carrying this fight all the way to the steps of the gilded City Hall.  We rally against the entrenched bureaucracy--a bureaucracy bereft of any guiding principles or policies.  This site is a virtual catalyst of new and fresh ideas.  This sites policies are based on firm, grounded market principles that place the trust in the people who make the hard day to day decisions not government bureaucrats.  We will defend the defenseless, protect the unprotected and inform the uninformed against the greedy and selfish special interests who only think of their own wallet and not the common good.

The General Plan that was steamrolled in 2002 was a Trojan Horse of the highest magnitude.  It is a huge assault on private property rights and business that will have negative effects upon San Leandro for decades.

WHERE WAS THE OUTRAGE?

WHERE WAS THE OUTRAGE WHEN:

A tree ordinance was being floated?

Sewer fees were raised?

There were plans to narrow Floresta Blvd.?

Group Homes and more low-income apartments were given the green light to flood our city?

 Rent Control was passed?

The proposed ban on second-story room additions was being discussed?

The General Plan proposed banning cementing the planter strip next to the curb in front of your house was being discussed?

Many of the other intrusive elements of the General Plan were passed?

The continuing rise in the homeless problem and the resulting rise in crime have only recently been addressed with minimal results?

Sadly, there has been no leadership from any City Councilman over the past 15 years on these and many other issues.  In fact on most issues the City Council remained silent.  More intrusion on your private property rights, more red tape, regulations and the fat cats in City Hall sit back and do nothing.  However, the people who show interest in this site have been in the forefront of all these issues standing up for the little guy.  The creators of the site thank-you for your courage.  We stand up for peoples private property rights and work to ensure that punitive and intrusive ordinances are defeated.

The Historical Preservation Ordinance that was enacted in the fall is starting its slow creep into private property rights.  The City Council has already abused the ordinance by declaring some redwood seedlings on Juana Ave. and Bancroft Ave. as historical.  These small trees have no historical value, are not indigenous to the site and are less than 150 years old.  The massive Sequoia's of Yosemite are 500 to 1000 years old.  These are historical trees and of value.  The trees that the City has declared historical are ready for fence material.
