"Smart Growth" is Stupid Growth

What is all this talk about smart growth coming from the annals of City Hall?  How will it affect housing and business patterns in San Leandro?

Smart Growth is the latest mindless, elitist concept to sprout out of Berkeley.

Smart Growth means:

1. Smaller, narrower streets. (There are already proposals to narrow E. 14th St. down to one lane in each direction and turn Bancroft Ave. into a bikeway.)

2. Doubling and even tripling the number of residences on each parcel.

3. Smart Growth calls for the building of these houses on existing industrial sites.

4. Smart Growth calls for the stacking of apartments on top of retail and commercial buildings.

5. In 2001 the City Council  made it even harder for the people to improve their homes.  People must now obtain their neighbors permission to improve their houses. The city never stops trying to sneak a tree ordinance into law.  A law that would have fined individual homeowners up to $15,000 for removing a tree from private property.

Smart Growth is a misnomer.  Paul G. Vargas is against such mindless drivel.

Only you can save yourself from the clutches of social engineers. UNITE!
