A wet and windy start to December and it will continue in this vain until mid month at least with low pressure systems rattling in off the Atlantic. Temps will vary but will be mostly on the mild side at 11 or 12 degrees but some days only 6 or 7. Very doubtful that there will be snow but hail is a possibility.
Christmas weather at the moment is very unpredictable. It looks like there will be low pressure to the north and high pressure to the south but depending on the locations of both the temperature will vary. If the low is near the north coast it could bring showers of a wintry nature however if the high is nearer it may steer up milder air. The met office is saying there is a 15% chance of a white one so dont hold your hopes out.
Confused? Yes it is a bit. But so is the weather. This Winter looks like it will be Mild again but because it is looking like a drier season than last year the nights will be colder so the overall average will be colder....therefore Milder but Colder. However there is a risk that later a sustained spell of Cold not seen for at least 10 Years will hit probably around January. So watch this space. Christmas could be cold too!
From a wet Summer to a dry Autumn. The simple answer is I dont know but the probable answer is that over a period of time the weather evens itself out in that most areas receive the same amount of rain each year whether its in frequent small doses or in large infrequent quantities like that of 2007.
Rainfall June 2007......................104mm (Normal....75mm)
Rainfall July 2007 ..............165mm (Normal.....80mm)
Rainfall Aug 2007 ......................114mm
Rainfall Sept 2007 ......................102mmm
Rainfall Oct 2007 ......................59mm
Rainfall Nov 2007 ......................85mm
Highest Daily Rainfall .............40mm (16 July 2007)
Actually all the months this year have been significantly milder than normal making it look like 2007 will be the warmest year on record....EVEN JUNE!! July is just the wrong side of normal at present but this is not surprising with all the rainfall. The year to year trend is still for warmer years.e.g. Many parts of Europe have had their hottest July ever so far.
