In order to keep our family and friends up-to-date, we have set up this web site for YOU, our guest. Hopefully it will make communicating a little easier as well. In a brief summary, Paul and I moved from Washington State to Maui to pursue new jobs. Paul was forced to look for a new job after his entire department at SAFECO Insurance was laid off. I was working for Great Cakes in Redmond and was content to stay there, but there were no offers for Paul. We went on the internet and I found some careers for Pastry Chefs. Paul decided it was a good time for me to pursue new opportunities and one specifically was a brand new restaurant on Maui. Long story short, I accepted the job and we moved here June 1, 2000. Opportunities were no better here for Paul and the pay scales were no better despite the cost of living. On September 4, 2000 Paul left for Basic Training in Ft. Knox, Kentucky. He joined the U.S. Army in order to set us up for a good future, paying off his college debts and giving him a secure job for the next 4 years. His commitment was not made easily as we know there are many risks associated. While he was away, I kept working at the restaurant: Merriman's Bamboo Bistro. There were many problems happening there, however and finances were the main issue. Many people were let go in order to conserve money. I met with the General Manager and Owner and they wanted to give me a pay cut. This was not acceptable for Paul and me, and so we negotiated my last day to be November 19, 2000. While Paul was in Training, I attended classes at Maui Community College: Web Site Design and Management courses as well as a few others including Excel, Access, Powerpoint, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I hope to find it useful for a personal business someday in the future. I would have liked to work in a local German bakery but a different opportunity came about for me. As of July 23, I have been employed at Community Bank - a branch on Post where Paul works. The pay is fine, working part time allows me to relax a bit more and the people I work with are great. I am a Customer Service Representative and Credit Services Specialist (Loans). On June 30, 2001 Paul and I picked out a lovely Golden Retriever puppy from a German breeder near the French border. It was a long drive to find the litter but well worth the efforts. We named our little puppy Zug (pronounced "tsook", similar in sound to Duke but with a Z). Zug is the German word for "train" or "pull". He was the biggest in the litter as well as the most affectionate, always wanting to be near Paul or myself. Come by to see some photos of the little guy if you like. To find out more about our past, check out History and read about what has happened these past years. Also, you can find out about our current status as well as updates in our Current Events section of this site. This is where you'll read about our most recent activities. Want to know what is ahead for us? Well, so do we. Visit Goals to read about our future. We are so glad you dropped by. Enjoy your visit and do come back again soon; I will be making changes as time allows and adding more pictures. If you have any problems downloading, please let me know; I'm still in the learning stages and need to know what needs to be fixed. I have LOTS of work to do, so please be patient. _______________________________________ Come back to where you first started... Back to Paul & Julie's Home Page |
