Freeholds of the County of Buckeyes

Herbium Castellum

3 dot Freehold. The County Seat and the Countess' personal freehold. Follow the link to its description.

The Good Ship Saint Mary

2 dot Freehold. A rather odd freehold for several reasons, the Good Ship Saint Mary appears in the mundane world as a replica Santa Maria which floats landlocked on the Olentangy River in downtown Columbus. Built by a special trust for the city's Centennial, the ship has never attracted the amount of interest its supporters had hoped. Despite this, a dedicated staff of volunteer history buffs continues working on the ship, giving tours to school groups and keeping the vessel ship shape.

Normally, such a background would make the location rather banal, but the dreams of the ship's supporters were very powerful, inspired in part by it's designer, Cristos Colum. Cristos is a nocker renowned for his ability to recreate historical vessels in both the Dreaming and the mundane worlds. The Saint Mary was his crowning achievement, a tourist attraction freehold that can actually sail the seas of the Dreaming. While the mundane Santa Maria is landlocked, unable to feel the salt air or the beat of the waves, the Saint Mary may sail upon the oceans of the Near Dreaming, leading to almost anywhere.

Follow this link to the website of the actual Santa Maria replica in Columbus, Ohio.

Making the ship even more unique is the Saint Mary's status as the anchor for a parosome, Boreas. Boreas captains the ship on her voyages, and his Inanimae immunity to bedlam insures that the Saint Mary always returns to her chimerical dock.

Both Cristos and Boreas greatly enjoy travelling the Dreaming; they are very willing to take passengers, charging only labor (Boreas loves teaching landlubbers to sail) and a few pieces of dross.

Papa Joe's

1 dot Freehold. Papa Joe's is a small bar just off the Ohio State campus run by an old satyr grump and is named after a famous mortal bar that burned down a few years back. Frequented almost exclusively by Changelings attending Ohio State Papa Joe's feeds off the excitement and glory of the Ohio State sports teams. This freehold often gets very rowdy; Papa Joe does little to discourage brawls other then keeping a pair of troll bouncers on staff.

Leatherface's Camp

1 dot Glade. The location of this Nunnehi camp is a great mystery, though many suspect it is somewhere in the northwestern corner of the County. The Nunnehi have only recently returned to the region, seeking to regain control of their old haunts.  Chief Leatherface leads his Nunnehi war band from this hidden site, if it were discovered there seems little the Countess could do to prevent a force of Baron Lorewick's knights from wiping it out.

Chateau D'Lucre

2 dot Freehold. This palatial estate sits high on the banks of the Sciota River. In its mortal seeming the Chateau is a massive house built of yellow brick. Large and attractive, it is the Wickham family home. Within the Dreaming the Chateau takes on the appearance of a large castle with golden walls and many flying banners. The freehold is well protected in both realms, as the Baron employs nearly a dozen enchanted human guards.  The Chateau is open to sidhe in need of hospitality, but "commoner beggars had best not show their noses here!" The Baron is very secretive, and very few changelings of any kith can claim to know the secrets of his freehold.

The Gremarye Institute

The Gremarye Institute is a boarding school dedicated to instructing changeling childings and kinain children. The school has existed near Columbus Ohio for at least a century, always standing in a large wooded lot on the banks of the Sciota river. To mortal eyes, the school appears to be a somewhat rundown but still impressive example of turn of the century architexture. To those who can see the glamour of the place, it takes on a more sinister appearence.

The school is run by a Dr. Rowan, a sidhe kinain who is well known in mortal education circles for his imaginative and successful teaching techniques with hyper-active children.  Students here are taught mundane subjects like math or history, but they also learn mythological lore and how to cast cantrips.
The school has always maintained a strict neutrality in Changeling politics.
