JESSICA DUBROFF

to dream
to follow your dream
ah surely that's life

to know
what you want
and rush everything
in gaining a dream
surely that's living

and I wonder
why people complained
when a young girl
flew in the skies

young at seven years old
Jessica Dubroff
flew and touched
that freedom
only a few care
to possess

she tasted
that total freedom
of flying

to fly
and see the freedom
that we all
yearn for
up among the clouds

Jessica
she wanted to fly
fly til she died

little did we know
that her wish
would be granted
in such a tragic way

as she crashed
during a storm
while trying to become
the youngest pilot
to fly across the country

and a nation
blamed her parents
for pushing her
to impossible tasks
against her will

but I saw Jessica's eyes
as she talked of flying

I wonder if the critics saw
the way her eyes sparkled
saw how they burned
with her desire
to soar higher
than the eagles soar
to be as one
with Icarus

without learning
that sometimes
dreams carry
high prices

but she knew the dangers
she saw the storm
and admitted that she might be afraid
she knew that death
might meet her

but Jessica choosed to fly
and not be chained
to this world
to soar with wings
above the earth

now Jessica soars
with angel's wings
and a nation wept
while not fully
understanding
a young girl's passion
as they never quite
understand the painting
of your life
or the freedom
that drove her
