INITIAL COST OF STARTING KARATE

Typically the initial outlay up to your first grading is around 80.00 which consists of the following three items:

LICENCE
The most important thing when you or your children start training is to obtain a licence.  The initial cost is
25.00 which includes a licence holder and a years membership of the BTKA.  Thereafter the annual fee
is 15.00, until you reach black belt when it reduces to 10.00.

GI (Karate Suit)
Once you have attended a few training sessions it is recommended that you purchase a Gi.  The cost
varies depending upon the size and quality of the Gi.  For beginners it is recommended to go for a
lightweight Gi which start from around 35.00.  These can be purchased from the BTKA via your instructor
and will have the BTKA Kanji embroidered on the front of them.  Alternatively you can go to JJB sports and
buy a plain one from around 15.00.

GRADING
After 12 weeks or so, you or your children will be ready for your first grading. The cost of a grading is 20.00;
of which 15.00 is for the grading and 5.00 for the Obi (Belt).  It should be noted that you will need a Gi
and a current licence to be able to grade.
