Personal Information
I graduated from Southern Methodist University with degrees in Computer Science (BA) and Music (BA) in may of 1998.
The CS degree is what pays the bills. Well, most of the time anyway. Currently I'm employed by an XML application development shop called Innodata-Isogen doing VBA, .Net, and other development work.
Of course, 2003 was an up-and-down year for the tech-savvy. I did work for DFW airport's HR department, and for really cool little internet and kiosk development shop called InSite Interactive as a systems architect and developer. For a couple of months between InSite and CGEY, I was a contractor at CitiFinancial Mortage doing VB.Net and VBA for Access 2000 development and support.
Last December, the Friday before Christmas, the evil axe swung, and I found myself the victim of a corporate downsizing. Until then I had worked for Cap Gemini Ernst and Young, one of the largest consulting firms in the world as a Sr. Consultant. Previously I worked for Ariesnet, a small Dallas based web design firm, as their Technical Director, until they quit paying their employees. Previous to that I was a technical developer at i.con interactive, who was at the time the official web designer for the Dallas Stars and Texas Rangers, where I did back end work for both of those sites.
The music degree keeps me sane. Currently I'm in a rock band called Full of Eels, The Lovers Lane Jazz Band, and have some demos up that have me playing and singing on a multi-track player on here if you want to see what I've been writing. I was also in a ska band called Idiot Box, that broke up in May 2001, and a pop-punk band called Money Shot that broke up in June 2001. In addition to that I play with a jazz combo for weddings and parties.
Oh yeah, and I play trombone, bass guitar, piano, guitar, harmonica, baritone, french horn, and trumpet, in that order.
I grew up in a "large" family. I'm the first of 4, and I am the son of a preacher man. My dad is the Rev. Jordan C Gary. I have 2 sisters and a brother. I went to Jr. High and High School in Wichita Falls and to Southern Methodist University after I graduated.
I like to think of myself as a bit adventurous. I love to travel when I can, and have seen a lot of the US. I've only been to England and Canada besides that, but I'm trying to add to that list as quickly as I can. I will try any type of food, and am a pretty good cook. I'm also educating myself about wine right now if anyone wants to help that way. But enough about me...

You are a geek liaison, which means you go both ways. You can hang out with normal people or you can hang out with geeks which means you often have geeks as friends and/or have a job where you have to mediate between geeks and normal people. This is an important role and one of which you should be proud. In fact, you can make a good deal of money as a translator.
Normal: Tell our geek we need him to work this weekend. |
