WHIG MEETING. Madison, May 1st, 1843. According to previous notice, a respectable portion of the Whig Party of Morgan County assembled at the Court House this day, for the purpose of appointing Delegates to the Whig June Convention. On the motion of Wm. O. Saffold, Esq., Dr. Elijah E. Jones was called to the Chair, and C.R. Hanleiter requested to act as Secretary. ...W.O. Saffold, Esq., Col. Augustus Reese, Dr. Hugh J. Ogilby, Benjamin M. Peeples, and John T. McNeil, Esq's., were appointed said Committee, who, after consultation, reported the names of Maj. Thomas D. Speer, Asariah Bostwick, Esq., William O. Saffold, Esq., John A. Broughton, Esq. Who were accordingly accepted as Delegates...

Madison, May 2, 1843. At a meeting of the Democratic Party of Morgan County, according to previous notice, this day, Thomas Swift was called to the Chair and Isham S. Fannin appointed Secretary. ...Whereas, a meeting of Democratic citizens of the State of Georgia, held in Milledgeville...recommend the several counties in this State send delegates to a Convention to be held on the first Monday in June next for the purpose of nominating a Candidate for Governor. The following gentlemen were appointed that Committee - to wit: Isaac Walker, Thomas J. Burney, John B. Walker, Lumpkin J. Garrett, Milton G. Davis, Robert Crowley and Stephen Jones ... who, after having retired for a short time, reported the names of Bennett Roberson, David Demerast, Thos. T. Saffold and Carter Shepherd as suitable individuals to represent this meeting in said Convention.
