Hi Richard,
Time flies. Your school year is about to end, and so is your elementary school education. I wish you a happy summer holiday and a successful learning from the new school and new friends.
My writing to you this time will come to an end, but my love and care to you continue. Whatever happens to you, you should always be happy and optimistic. When misfortune comes, you should learn how to face it, accept it, resolve it and eventually let it go. Have good enough sleep and keep a healthy life. When you have time, think about advancements in the areas of Love, Wisdom and Courage.
A student of Confucius, Zi Lu (子路), asked his teacher how to be a good person, i.e. Jun Zi (君子). Confucius said, "Work respectfully to develop a good personality." Zi Lu puzzled and asked, "Is that all?" Confucius added, "Develop a good personality so that you could serve others." Zi Lu still puzzled and asked, "Is that all?" Confucius further added, "Develop a good personality so that you could serve the public. Even saints like Yao (堯), Shun (舜) found it difficult."
子路問君子。子曰：「修己以敬。」曰：「如斯而已乎？」曰：「修己以安人。」曰：「如斯而已乎？」曰：「修己以安百姓。修己以安百姓，堯舜其猶病諸！」
Richard, to have a good personality is the first step and is an important step to build up the foundation. However, our learning does not stop here. As a human being, we live and work together as a group. After a good personality is developed, we need to learn how to work with others and how to contribute the best to our community. I am eager to share all these with you one day. Until then, all the best to you and to your learning!
