| Opening Activities: - students hang up coats/bags independently - students take name tag from carpet and put in Pocket Chart - exchange Home Reading books - Centers and/or Entry Activity (simple printing, numbers or theme work) |
| Calendar Activities: - "Special Helper" leads Calendar activities - change date, count days of the month, read pattern on Calendar, days of the week months, weather, tally... - sing songs, read poems and sentences, introduce Math concepts |
| Centers There are many Centers which the students can choose from: House, Math Manipulatives, Big Toys/Small Toys, Lego, Drawing/Painting, Stamps, Water, Playdough, Big and Little Blocks, Stamps, Art Table, Puzzles, Sand Table, Chalkboards... |
| Language Arts Concepts and Activities:: We will be participating in many activities focussing on the Alphbet, reading and writing: brainstorming word banks, letter and letter-sound recognition, phonics and sight word activities, class big books, individual booklets, songs/poems, fact finding, reading for meaning, inventive spelling, printing books (letters and numerals), McCraken language activities, shared stories, journals, games (ie. BINGO), chanting, choral reading, patterns, rhymes, and vocabulary development |
| Theme Activities: The children will be involved in many theme related activities and projects: theme songs and poems, worksheets, class big books, shared stories, art activities, individual theme booklets, fact finding, classroom/community searches and science experiments |
| Mathematical Concepts and Actvities: The children will be introduced to a variety of new concepts and we will also build upon what the children already know: number concepts, counting, patterns and relationships, sorting and grouping, shapes and solids, graphing, statistics and probability, number operations, Interactions group activities, using math games and manipulatives (individual, small group and whole class) |
| Gym (once a week): whole class, individual, and small group games, stations, specific skill development, fine and gross motor development, and use of gym equipment |
| Computers (once a week): educational games (programs and CD Roms), journals on computers, respect and responsibility, specific skill development (typing, drawing, using mouse, saving work) |
| Library (once a week): story time, individually choosing appropriate books for home and classroom reading, respect and responsibility and enjoyment and appreciation |
