The Corbie the Cat Page
Corbie is our only pet, a tortie (colored like a tortoise) cat that we found abandoned at a small petting zoo in October of 2001.  Corbie, who was around 2 years old as of May 2003, is quite a character and is unlike any cat we've ever had the pleasure or displeasure of meeting.  She remains very playful despite being "fixed," has an extraordinary vocabulary with which she expresses herself, and can go from rotten to adorable in two seconds flat!  Her name comes from a Scots word for "crow," which she did a lot of on the ride from the petting zoo to her new home on the day we found her (or she found us!).  Corbie has a variety of hobbies, including:
PLAYING WITH HER MICE:  Corbie loves the gray and white furry toy mice we bought for her, and delights in swatting them into inaccessible places such as under the stove or beneath the rear of the BIG and hard-to-move entertainment unit.  We get a kick out of watching her play with the mice, carrying them around in her mouth to the spots she plans to lose them.  When we recently moved the beast that is our entertainment center we found about a dozen of the poor critters!  On a good day, the mice will keep Corbie occupied for up to an hour or so.  On MOST days she'll have lost the mouse within ten minutes, and come to us vocally demanding another!
WANTED! One-eyed mouse: frequently hides under stoves and entertainment units.
PLAYING WITH HER FOOD:  Before being introduced to the mice, Corbie's #1 hobby was swatting around her hard round cat food on the kitchen floor.  Displaying the precision footwork of a premier soccer player, she'd speed across the floor until the morsel of food rolled beneath the stove or under the pantry door.  Corbie still partakes of cat food soccer on occasion, but far and away prefers the mice.  Another "game" Corbie has learned is to take a mouthful of her moist cat food and relocate it outside her food dish.  This usually is no big deal, as the kitchen floor wipes up pretty easily.  The problem comes when she decides the kitchen floor is too chilly for her delicate paws, and she travels further afield to drop her messy food on the new living room carpet!!!
Corbie deftly "dribbles" a piece of hard cat food across the old kitchen floor.
CLIMBING THE TREE:  Corbie is an inside-only cat, so her "tree" is a store-bought carpet-lined cat tree.  The cat tree gets lots of use, and appears to be one of Corbie's favorite hang-outs for when we're away at work.  The tree is usually situated next to one of the living room windows, which offer Corbie an excellent view of birds, squirrels, people, pets and more that pass by throughout the day.  The tree's current placement gives Corbie a terrific view of the bird feeders and nearby woods.  As Stacey has discovered, Corbie likes to share her viewing experiences and becomes very happy and cuddly when we come over to the tree to ask her what she sees!  The tree also serves the essential role of a scratching post (one corner is thread-bare), and allows Corbie to display her wild, acrobatic abilities as she climbs and hangs.
Yawn!  The life of a cat is just SO tiring!
Corbie tells Stacey all about thos squirrels and birdies that she sees outside the window.

STALKING:  Corbie reserves this daily activity almost exclusively for Stacey.  The cat has many favorite hiding spots, ranging from under the bed, to around corners, to very poorly "concealed" under a worn grocery bag, and wait very patiently for her prey.  When Stacey finally comes along, the cat will dash out and usually do what we term "a halloween cat" by poofing her tail, arching her back, and sort of charging, sidling, and then dashing away.  ONE of these days we'll catch it with the camera!!!  Corbie also enjoys playing step monster, challenging us to pass the fierce step-swimming creature with flailing legs.

Watching TV tuckers out Corbie-- must be the "quality" of modern television programming!
We think that Corbie is pleased with our selection for new carpet.
That mouse doesn't stand a chance against this ferocious feline!
