The most frantic participant in the "hydrogen car race" is the BMW company. They are designing hydrogen cars as we speak by the dozens, but have come across some unruley obstacles. First off, the price of a hydrogen fueled car is not yet determined, however, it will indeed be very high due to high storage and shipping costs. Second, where will owners of a hydrogen fueled vehicle purchase fuel? How will BMW convince current fuel stations let alone our government to switch to or even offer the new fuel? Currently, BMW is working with governments and oil companies of many countries to promote the new efficient, clean, and innexpencive fuel system, but still has bumpy roads ahead. The storage systems which must hold the -253 C hydrogen fuel must be wrapped in 70 layers of aluminum and fiberglass so that the fuel is preserved in it's normal state.
However, the new futuristic design of the new cars may take the world by suprise. The new electric cars have proven to have many malfuctions and look clunky and boxy. The BMW company is working hard to see that these new model vehicles look just like the old ones in most cases, but some hold a very admiring design. The vehicles preform such as other makes of BMW would regularly. Also, the engines can be used with the hydrogen fuel or gasoline fuel, which could make a full transformation to hydrogen fuel more efficient for everyone. Many see a promising future for the hydrogen car, but the production of such an engine could do more bad than good (see Pro's and Con's) |
