DIGITAL GAMES NETWORK - 1998 TO
2000
Living a very short life, Digital
Games Network was my first major project that I had started
way back in the Summer of 1998. At first, the site started out
from a Dreamcast project, giving up-to-date (almost)
information on the Dreamcast console and its games. During its
time, I decided that I wanted to cover other consoles too, but
having started it, I never actually completed it.
I had
this feeling of giving up, because I couldn't keep up with the
work. Another reason why I had this feeling was because Sega
had announced that they were going to discontinue Dreamcast's
life and to change to a software developer instead. As the
Dreamcast site was the glue to my project, things started to
fall apart and I shut the site down.
I also began a
music site covering the UK Singles Charts and to produce a
release dates list. That began well, and still lives on today.
More of this later...
This actually gave me some
relief, as I was studying for my prelims and exams (almost).
Afterwards, I decided that I would work on something else
instead. And you've probably guessed what it is - my Mini
Music Site.

MINI MUSIC SITE - 1999 TO
2003
The Mini Music Site was started
because I wanted to get away from the gaming side for one
moment. It was a nice addition to Digital Games Network (for
those who remembered it). It was a clean design, very simple
and had a maximum of 5 pages in total! Hence the name, of
course.
Because my games site had a slogan - "Fun &
Games Made Digital" - I thought that this needed one too. So I
thought of: "Music From Across Europe". Now it did actually
contain information from around Europe - but only for a bit.
To be honest, I couldn't be arsed to do anything more to it
after two weeks of news from Europe, so I decided to stick
with the UK Singles Chart and the release dates section. There
was also a Weblinks page, but that kinda died as I kept on
forgetting to update it (wasn't an important page of the
site), and it showed too - if anybody remembers the old Moby,
Oasis and Peaches banners from 2001/2002 that had release
dates from that period still shown to the public in
2003!
A little tip: try to keep self-made banners
updated or at least take them off the site altogether. Don't
do as I did and leave the same banners rotating for about two
years! Oops!
And now, late 2003, it gets a name change
from, Mini Music Site to, Yu's Music Site. Not a major change,
I know, but I've decided to change it since I'm gonna expand
the site - can't stay 'Mini' forever.
This brings me to
my third major project - Soundshok!

SOUNDSHOK - FEB 2002 TO AUG
2003
For those of you who don't know who
or what Soundshok are, they are a four-piece metal band from
the North-East of Scotland. The Soundshok site was my most
popular site of all. Mainly because of all the promotion the
band were giving it. The work for the website started just a
couple of months after the guys had formed, which was in
February 2002. It started off simple - as always - with news
and events pages and a guestbook. It grew as months passed as
did the number of visitors. If I remember rightly, the site
had just under 200 visitors in one day - but I think most of
that were regulars from the school. But hits are
hits.
So, at the start of 2003, a new look Soundshok
site was online. It was totally different from anything I had
done before. One of the most complicated code I had written,
too, as I don't use any building packages. I was so pleased
with the latest look of the site, and so were the visitors;
people saying how cool the new website was on the guestbook.
Even the band members were pleased about it!
But then
suddenly, late summer of 2003, news came to me that one of the
band members said he didn't like it no more - saying something
like, "it wasn't scary enough...". Not being a devil worshiper
myself, I tried to get their feedback, but someone else too
over without consulting me.
Oh well, it's their loss...
the band seem to be doing quite well, and quite popular around
our county. I would give you a taste of what they're like by
uploading one of their songs again, but I have to be honest
here - I can't be arsed to.
Their new website is
here: http://www.soundshok.cjb.com
Beginners
designs of course...

YU'S MUSIC SITE - DEC 2003 TO
PRESENT
And here were are! Yu's Music Site
is techincally an old site but under a different name. It will
carry on with what the Mini Music Site has brought you - that
is the chart.
The site is now all made up in Macromedia
Flash with simple animations. Can't do anything complicated
yet. And for the first time in years (really) the site
includes - wait for it - pictures!! For years, the Mini Music
Site was an orange on white website, with no pictures of
artists at all! Now, I am currently working on a flipbook of
artists' to include on the site. It'll be more colourful -
trust me.
Final comment: The music site is currently
offline at the moment, but it WILL be back soon! Stay tuned
for more news on the site!

YU PROJECTS - Q2 2003 TO
PRESENT
This portfolio website started
one day when a thought had come to me: most of the sites I've
made are offline, and I had nothing to show from it apart
from the music site. So that's how this site came about. Now,
granted there's nothing much on offer to you, the visiter,
but I do believe that I've gained some success over my
work.
During Spring 2004, I started to develop a more
formal-looking website to display my work. It was done all
in Flash, and it took me ages to build, but I was happy
with the result. You can download a Yu
Projects Screenshot and see what it had looked like. The
only problem with it was that it was quite hard to update, as
you have to check that all the frames and layers were
functioning properly when edited.
So, a few months
later, I decided to get away from Flash, and go back to my
old ways and do the website all in pure HTML! And hey - I've
even gone and put some photos of my town in it! Although I do
not consider myself as a photographer in any way, as proven
from the photo on the homepage!
Hehe...!

OTHER WORK
There
isn't much else in my book of work, but I would just like to
add that I do still have another project up my sleeve that got
started-ish, but was never continued... did that make
sense?!
Anyway - one of my local radio stations, Radio
North Angus (RNA for short) has a website. I have plans to
make that site do more than what it does currently, which in
my mind will bring some more listeners to the station also.
Hopefully one day, the big bosses will decide to take up my
offer of making a successful website, which in turn will add
to my portfolio collection!
In the meantime, here is
their current website: http://www.radionorthangus.co.uk
